[Well. That's good news.

Alfie drops his bags too, then gingerly eases himself down onto the floor - in front of the door, next to the chairs. He closes his eyes, catching his breath for a moment before opening them again to look at her wearily.]

The ribs?

[plundering]

[Fiona makes a face, one hand going to her side unconsciously.]

I'm fine.

[devoutish]

You and Duster. Always saying that.

[He closes his eyes again.]

[plundering]

[Man, she really didn't need the Duster comparison right now.]

Nothing we can do about it anyway.

[devoutish]

I've got painkillers.

[He nods at his bags.]

Strong stuff. I chop 'em up.

[plundering]

[She eyes him for a moment.]

What kind of painkillers?

[devoutish]

Vicodin, from a deal with House.

[plundering]

[She smiles wryly.]

Was it a deal?

[devoutish]

It was. He paid me handsomely for his half.

Sit down, yeah?

[He shifts to the side, giving her more room.]

[plundering]

[She sits, the movement slow and ginger, and then leans her head back against the door and closes her eyes.]

He's addicted to it, you know.

[devoutish]

Mm, yeah.

[He hadn't known for sure, but he'd suspected.]

Like I said, strong stuff. I'm careful with it. A third or fourth of a pill takes the worst of the edge off.

[plundering]

Yeah.

[She's quiet for a moment, considering it, but she doesn't think he'll screw her over if she gets a bit loopy. Fiona sighs, the breath coming out slow.]

Sure. Give it to me.

[devoutish]

[He reaches forward with a muffled groan, tugging his backpack close enough to open it up and rifle through the pockets. Out comes the Vicodin bottle, and his scalpel. He shakes out a pill, carefully cutting it into fourths (don't worry, he washed House's blood off). Then he holds all the little pieces out to Fiona, for her to ration as she sees fit.]

[plundering]

[Fiona takes one, shooting him a grateful smile as she does. She knows it's valuable, and she knows he could have easily asked for something in return for it. She just swallows it down dry.]

Thanks.

[devoutish]

Yeah.

[He settles against the door again, wedging his messenger bag behind his back. It's twinging him more than usual because of the run, but not bad enough to make him want to resort to the pills.]

-- Quiet outside.

[So that's good news.]

[plundering]

Hey, maybe we got lucky for once.

[She leans back too, waiting for the pill to kick in and trying, stubbornly, to ignore the ache in her side and shoulder.]

[devoutish]

Yeah - apparently it chased Tifa and Haurchefant.

[Which definitely makes him frown a little deeper. He cares about Tifa.]

[plundering]

They'll be okay. Haurchefant's tough. He'll help her if she needs it.

[devoutish]

Yeah. She's a little thing, but she's tough herself.

[plundering]

You've gotta be tough here.

[She shifts a little awkwardly.]

What about you? You doing okay?

[devoutish]

Back problems. Nothing too terrible, right, but it doesn't do well in the cold.

[plundering]

[She smiles a little. It might come off forced. She's still waiting for the Vicodin to kick in.]

Maybe I should have carried you.

[devoutish]

[Alfie's still tense, still on edge, and still not in the greatest mood - but that does get a little bit of a smile out of him. It's Fiona; she usually does.]

That would have been a sight.

[plundering]

[She's not exactly on top of her teasing game right now, but she's trying.]

[It's okay, they can fail at it together.]
