[He's talked with Luna, and he's recently found out what she is. It's boggling to him.]

I'm not the person to ask about this. Go talk to Rhys or Angel. I don't get programming or... any of that.

[devoutish]

But knowing that they are programming, right - that doesn't change how you see them at all?

[This is a weird conversation, Alfie.]

[He shakes his head.]

Might just be because I'm not used to it.

But what we have, right, that makes us think and feel - I can't imagine that as something a human being could create.

[plundering]

You mean our brains? That's just neurons and chemicals, right? If you can connect a data drive to someone's brain, it isn't crazy to think you could recreate one.

[devoutish]

What about our souls? Do you believe in the soul?

[plundering]

Nope.

Does anyone where you're from? It's not always a religious thing.

[plundering]

Yeah, sure. There are religions where I'm from, too. I just don't believe in any of them.

[Some of them are probably just not what he'd expect.]

My praying must seem odd to you.

[plundering]

[She shrugs.]

Nah. You can believe whatever you want to.

[devoutish]

Keeping to the same rituals when I can helps. Everybody I know at home would be praying before bed, too.

[A brief, small smile.]

But I do suspect there's a bit of a time difference.

[plundering]

Yeah, a bit. You ever get lonely here?

[devoutish]

Very much, yes. All the time.

[There's a hint of wistfulness in his voice, but overall he sounds very matter-of-fact. It's the truth of his life, right now. He's dealing with it the best he can, and he's not going to deny it.]

[plundering]

[Oh, Alfie. She's giving his hand a little squeeze again.]

This place sucks.

[devoutish]

[The slang might be unfamiliar, but the sentiment sure isn't. Norfinbury is the absolute worst place he's ever been, and that's including the trenches.]

Are you lonely yourself?

[Or do the friends she's made here make up for it? He knows they do for some people. But as much as he's come to care about some of the people here, none of them are from his community, and he's always hyper-aware of that.]

[Fiona hesitates for a moment.]

Yeah, sometimes. The people here help. Rhys helps.

[But she still misses Sasha like crazy.]

I'd rather have someone from home who's distant from me than someone important to me. Then I could have the familiarity without the worry, yeah?

[plundering]

Yeah.

[She sighs.]

Rhys and I were friends back home, too.

[devoutish]

Makes you worry all the more, doesn't it.

[plundering]

[She nods.]

He's good at getting into trouble.

[devoutish]

Do you ever think about what you'd do if that sister of yours showed up?

[plundering]

[Fiona frowns in a way that betrays the fact that she's thought entirely too much about this possibility.]
