[Tifa stays by Emily's side until the little girl falls asleep, at which point she slips out of bed and then closes the door very carefully behind her. She's still furious, and she thinks she will be for a while, but at least she doesn't feel like screaming herself hoarse at Alfie and Royce anymore. She needs to talk to them, though, to figure out what the hell they were thinking, so she sets through the house to find them.]

[Alfie can be found in the living room, hunkered down on the couch. At first, he looks like he might be sleeping - his eyes are closed, and his hat has partially fallen over his face. But he looks up, alert, as soon as she enters the room.]

Tifa.

[powersouls]

[As soon as Tifa finds him, she suddenly has no idea what to say. She frowns, crossing her arms over her chest almost defensively. There's a long pause as she tries to decide where to start.]

Why would you two even think of doing that?

[devoutish]

How's Emily? Is she all right?

[powersouls]

[Tifa rolls her eyes.]

Sleeping. You scared her half to death. Why didn't you worry about her before you decided to corner House in a bathroom?

[devoutish]

He's been harassing Royce. He needed to be scared a bit; to be taught a lesson. It wasn't supposed to get as far as it did with her in the house.

[powersouls]

Your lessons don't work on him. It should have never happened with Emily in the house at all. You just told me the other day you're worried about her.

[devoutish]

I am.

[Even more, now.]

[powersouls]

But you did it anyway?

[She can't wrap her head around it.]

[devoutish]

She was not supposed to come walking into the room, Tifa.

You didn't know that she wouldn't.

[devoutish]

It was meant to be intimidation. He was not going to be hurt.

[She lets out a soft huff, an irritated noise.]

That doesn't matter, Alfie. Why did you need to do it while Emily is here, especially when you know how angry House makes Royce?

[bywolves]

[ Royce is in the kitchen, because he's just casually reverting to old habits. He's heard the song several times now, and when Tifa finds him, he's jammed himself up on the counter in a corner, tapping his fingers along to the rhythm.

He hums it quietly when she approaches, pausing where there's static. ]

[powersouls]

[Well that's... vaguely unsettling. Hadn't they mentioned music before? But that's something to focus on later, she thinks.]

Royce, we need to talk.

[bywolves]

[ He's afraid. Which he knows is manufactured, logically. Even when they were being hunted, he wasn't afraid until he was being murdered. He's all twisted into knots on the inside. It's uncomfortable. ]

Talk. [ Royce says, like he's giving permission, not looking at her. ]

[powersouls]

[Great, Tifa thinks, and she studies him for a moment.]

You scared Emily half to death.

[bywolves]

I know. [ And? He still won't look at her. ]

[powersouls]

I want to know why you thought it would be a good idea to corner House in a bathroom with her here.

[Ideally he wouldn't corner House in bathrooms at all, but that's asking for too much and she knows it.]

[bywolves]

She wasn't supposed to walk in. [ Sorry, Tifa. ]

[powersouls]

[That's the same answer Alfie gave her, and she has even less patience with it this time.]

She wasn't supposed to, but you had no way of knowing if she would.

[bywolves]

Solomons should've been watching the door but I lost my temper. [ At least he admits it. ]

[powersouls]

You always lose your temper with House.

[It's not really even an accusation, more of a statement.]

[bywolves]

Yes, thank you, I'm aware. [ He snaps. ] He called me a dog. I'm not someone's pet. I don't belong to any of you, despite your desperate attempts to train me into a well-behaved housecat.
