No, she doesn't. [ Don't. ] I'm not her father. You and Solomons can be in charge of raising her correctly, if that's what you want. You don't need or want my influence.

I know you're not, but you're the only family she's got. Marlene isn't mine or Barret's either, but that doesn't matter. She needs you.

Obviously not. Don't think I didn't hear you say to Solomons that you'd be taking Emily and leaving if we cornered House again, Tifa. The walls have ears.

[ He looks away, voice a little rougher. ] It doesn't matter what she wants. She'll need to learn that people will leave her regardless, someday. Might as well be now.

[By contrast, Tifa's voice gets a little softer.]

You don't mean that, Royce.

[ He doesn't answer her, looking at the wall instead. His fingers tap against the counter to the last few bars of the song that's been playing all night. ]

[She studies him for a moment, then sighs.]

You know she's already learned that lesson. Do you really want to add to it?

[bywolves]

That lesson is not a one time deal.

[powersouls]

Don't you want to try to protect her from it so that she doesn't go through what we have?

[bywolves]

No. If not us, someone else will. There's no reason to protect her from it.

[powersouls]

[ He looks at her, annoyed. ] Why is that always your response?

Because whenever you make your mind up, there's nothing I can say that makes a difference.
