[fuckingwolverine]

[Lilly much prefers the dark and dank residential buildings to this. This place is too bright and too exposed, with nothing to zip under or behind when she feels overwhelmed. She'll spend the first few minutes alternately scampering in circles, testing all the walls for escape routes - including the energy barrier, which looks so flimsy that she can't help but pound at it several times longer than anything else, even though she gets the same result every time. The jumpsuit isn't up to her standards either, and she picks at it unhappily as she goes about her business.

Eventually, with one last hit to the barrier followed by a screech of frustration, she retreats to the back corner and sits facing the wall. She rejects this reality; bye, everyone.]

[bywolves]

[ The screech startles him, but Royce is - curious, after he's heard it. Carefully, he moves to the barrier, settling down in front of it. It sounds like it's coming from close by, so Royce raps his fingers against the cell wall in a pattern to see if he gets any sort of response.

Someone that screeches like that probably isn't... incredibly verbal, he thinks. He's got experience. ]

[fuckingwolverine]

[She won't notice at first, but if he does it a couple of times, she'll stop her pacing and circling. After a few moments, she copies the pattern.]

[bywolves]

[ A very, very small twitch of a smile curls at the corner of his lips when the pattern comes back. He changes it up a bit, adding a pause and a few extra knocks, just to see. ]

[fuckingwolverine]

[She copies it again, then calls out:]

Wassat!

[bywolves]

[ Sounds like a kid. A little girl. Maribor's sake. ]

A wolf with nothing else to do. [ A beat. ] And you're a copycat.

[fuckingwolverine]

Wanna tablet.

[She grumbles. She's become a fan. She likes being able to shut people off and turn them back on at will.]

An' notta wolf. No.

[Wolves can't talk, Royce. You can't fool her.]

[bywolves]

You can't see me, how do you know?

[ Sniff. ] But I agree. Don't have to listen to people talking to you if you've only got a tablet.

[fuckingwolverine]

[She grunts, but it's an approving-sounding grunt. This guy gets it.]

Notta wolf.

[She repeats.]

Talking.

[bywolves]

There are a couple of talking cats here. Why not a wolf?

[ He's going to stick with this because it's distracting, honestly. ]

[fuckingwolverine]

[There's a pause... and then she howls like a wolf. It's not a bad imitation, actually.]

[bywolves]

[ That actually gets a quiet laugh out of him. Very short, a little strained, but. A beat, and then, carefully avoiding Alfie's gaze from across the way because he's not looking to embarrass himself too badly - he howls back, a quieter version that... actually isn't that bad either. ]

[fuckingwolverine]

[Oh, Alfie is definitely watching with an amused look on his face. You make friends with that feral child, Royce. And Lilly, for her part, loves it. She howls again, following it up with a couple of yips.]

Wolf.

[She agrees, finally. She doesn't actually believe that he is one (she's not sure she believes in the talking cats, either), but she'll let him call himself one if he wants to.]

[bywolves]

Mm. Wolf. [ She's adorable, in Royce's opinion. ]

You have a name, copycat?

[fuckingwolverine]

[Well, if he's going to name himself after an animal, she wants to be cool and do the same thing. Rabbit, maybe - except rabbits get caught and eaten. Sometimes by her.]

Wolf.

[She'll be a copycat in this way, too.]

[bywolves]

[ His lips twitch again. ]

How are people going to tell us apart?

[fuckingwolverine]

[She makes a noncommittal noise. Who cares whether or not other people can tell them apart?]

[bywolves]

Hm. You're right. [ He closes his eyes. ] What does your cell look like, Wolf?

[fuckingwolverine]

[She really likes it when people get what she's saying without making her use too many words. It relaxes her, and makes her more open to actual talking.]

Nuffin' in it. Can't geddout.

[bywolves]

[ He was a nonverbal kid too, once. He gets it. ]

Me either. Tried hitting the barrier and it didn't work. No weak spots in the bathroom either.

[fuckingwolverine]

[She doesn't say anything, an expectant silence hanging in the air. What is he going to try next? What can they do?]

[bywolves]

[ He's quiet for a while, thinking. ]

If someone comes to try to get you out of that cell, you should bite and kick and scratch them as much as you possibly can.

[fuckingwolverine]

Mm!

[Great idea; that's generally her go-to plan when people try to grab her.]

You?

[Does he also scratch and kick and bite?]

[bywolves]

Yeah. Me too. Did that the last time I was stuck in a cell. Nobody good comes for you in a place like this.

[fuckingwolverine]

[More silence. She's mulling something over.]

... Cell?

[He's said it a couple of times, but seriously, this just looks like a room to her.]
