You can leave houses. [ He tilts his head back. ] Usually.

[If you try, you get dragged inside and yelled at for sleeping in the yard in the cold. She knows from experience.]

[bywolves]

Mm. [ He thinks about it. ] This entire place is a prison. Maybe not for you. Don't know if you care whether you're here or where you came from. But it is for some people.

House can be a prison. Guess it depends on what perspective you're looking from.

[It's an interesting idea, and she's quiet for a moment, thinking about it. She's not totally clear on the meaning of every single word he says, but she still gets the general gist of the idea.

Quietly and a little clumsily, she asks:]

Per-spec-tive?

[bywolves]

Yes. A different view. [ He tilts his head in the direction of her cell. ] A different way of seeing things or thinking of things.

[fuckingwolverine]

[Oh. She gives a displeased little grunt at that. Nope, houses are pretty much always prisons; sorry, she doesn't make the rules. Abandoned houses in the woods (and maybe in Norfinbury) are the sole exception.]

Want Mama.

[She mutters, more to herself than to Royce.]

I want Victoria.

[bywolves]

You'll see them one way or another, eventually.

[ That's - morbid, he thinks, but. ]

[fuckingwolverine]

How.

[She wants in on this now.]

[bywolves]

They won't be real. [ He's not going to lie, anyway. ] You'll see them but they won't be there. That's how this place works.

Or they'll end up here, too, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

[fuckingwolverine]

[She bangs the wall in frustration, not liking that answer. It doesn't make sense. How can she see them if they're not here? If she sees them, surely that means they will be here. Of course it does.]

[bywolves]

I know. [ It makes him mad too, but. He goes silent for now, closing his eyes. ]
