[ It's not the first time he's heard voices in his head in this town. It probably won't be the last.

But there's a difference between hearing people screaming and hearing people chanting. Never mind chanting about something he wants nothing to do with. He'd teared off as soon as that bad feeling had struck him and been on his own since, trying not to cross the paths of other people if he could help it. If there was ever a moment where he understood where choice in self-control ended though, it's in the moment he sight of that faint glow of someone's-

His hand's on the grip of his makeshift sword before he even can process what he's doing, a faint whisper of danger at the sight of the outline of a man in the shadows. But he manages to still himself there, even as he can feel the whispers clutching at his mind, how they start to tangle and attempt to mesh with his thoughts-

'They'll destroy us if you don't stop them.'

'Kill them.'

'They will waste this town-'

Damn it..

[Bucky freezes in place at the same time.

This is a stranger, and that makes this so much harder. He doesn't know how likely this person is to fight the impulses to fight that those with the weird eyes seem to have tonight, and he doesn't know how good of a fighter he is if it comes down to it.

He shifts his stance, ready and waiting.]

Walk away.

[ It's the voice that carries in the oddly still night of the oddly cold-free town that seems to jump start him out of that rolling chanting. At least briefly. Enough for him to try and do exactly that. But it's suddenly a lot harder than he'd think it would be. It's not like Jim or Kunsel or Zell when he'd seen them. Maybe because they're no one he'd ever in his right mind want to hurt. This isn't anyone he personally knows. Not that theories and guess work matter right now. No, right now is him- trying to- do exactly that, but it's really frustrating and- ]

I'd love to, really-! [ He's yelling it angrily, but the anger's clearly more at himself. Because no matter how much he's attempting to, his body suddenly feels like it's working against him. It feels like there's weights on his legs for every step he takes back. And it's getting harder and harder. The hand on the grip of his sword grows tighter. ]

I don't know what the hell is going on, but- you need to leave! Now!

[ There's a desperation in those odd scrawled eyes of his as he yells. ]

[It's a good thing, that some people are fighting this, but it's not enough. He knows running is the best option here, but he doesn't want to turn his back. It itches between his shoulder blades, like a knife waiting to be plunged in.

He steps back without turning instead, trying to back away far enough that he feels safe enough to turn and then run.]

Keep fighting it.

[ For now. Fighting this for now.

But there's a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. A sense of dread. A sense of knowing the worst is yet to come. A part of him laughs bitterly at himself now. At how much shit he'd given Beckett, how much he'd talked about control like he knew too well about it.

Is this how Beckett felt when he'd snapped that night?

The thought's there and gone though. Other thoughts push against the ones he tries to cling to. Try to bury them alive. He's frozen in his tracks now. He can't budge another step and yet he can hear the other man again and when he looks up, he's still there- why are they still there!?
]

Quit wasting time and move, damn it!

I am moving.

[He keeps his voice low and almost soothing, like talking to a spooked animal, and keeps moving backwards in increments.

After he makes it five more steps, he finally turns and begins to sprint at top speed. He's not looking for a house, exactly, just anywhere where he can hide from his possible pursuer.]

[ Increments is something, sure, but it's not as fast as he wishes he would... he would...

What was he.. thinking about? His head hurts and he finds himself teetering to a kneel as the dam reining that outward pressure from invading breaks and alien thoughts swirl and spin. Thoughts that make his heart pound and hair rise at the back of his neck. He can't-

He can't let that man get away. If he lets him get away, he'll-

Zack takes up the makeshift sword from behind him, raising it to his forehead one moment.

A split second later though and he's off, racing after Bucky full tilt. Whatever desperation's gone from his eyes as he zones in on his target.

A SOLDIER's not supposed to question orders, after all. It's for the good of everyone, after all.

[He'll have to be fast to catch Bucky, they're both at the upper limits of what humans can do, but Bucky has experience in hiding from pursuit. It's a skill he's honed exceptionally over the past few years with all the people hunting him.

He just runs fast enough to get out of eyeline and then stops, drops, and covers himself in snow.

He'll hide here until the pursuit has gone, and then move off in another direction.]

[ He's definitely fast. He'll give him that much. Fast but so is Zack.

Which apparently doesn't amount to much when he turns the corner and Bucky's just gone. He frowns deeply as he treks forward on the lookout for the traitor. And if he might have stepped right over Bucky, well.

That might have just been a thing. He hesitates, looking around for a moment longer. But then he continues along his way, unaware of the Winter Soldier as he wanders off in unsucessful pursuit.
