[This is your general mingle log for the day! Start toplevels at your pleasure. Below there will be a toplevel for the actual Council of Snowhell.]

[He's a newcomer and is finding out about all of this after the fact, but.]

It's a sticky situation. Involve everyone, and someone gets upset for dragging out personal business. Involve only those affected by it, and others can get upset over the lack of transparency.

And the fact that nobody died is irrelevant. Kidnapping is still a crime pretty much everywhere, as is injuring someone.

Oh, yeah, it's not an easy situation or anything. [Seeing a parent treat a kid badly is never an easy situation; he would know. Ah, but, did he sound a bit too serious back there? Excuse him while he quickly tries to fix that with a lighter tone of voice.]

It just seems a bit hasty to drag a guy on trial in front of complete strangers before you've got all the facts, you know?

[Then again, if someone had kidnapped or hurt him, or, heck, one of his friends, he'd probably be pretty bitter and ready for swift justice himself. He's a hypocrite like that. Except that in this case--]

The ones he committed the crimes against want no punishment for him, either.

[He can't tell whether that's ultimately a good or a bad thing, though.]

That's not terribly uncommon, for a variety of reasons.

[Reasons he won't go into right now, because he doesn't know the specifics of Jack and Angel's relationship and doesn't want to assume things.]

The more important question here is, how likely is it that he would do something like this again? Instead of focusing on punishing him, a better approach would be to take steps to make sure he does not harm anyone again.

Wellll, I can't argue 'bout that.

[Which is to say, he can see the point this guy's making. But at the same time, he's not ready to jump to conclusions without any more information either. So, they've got that in common?] But the ones involved are pretty much the only ones who know the full story. All the rest of us can do is guess.

[Which is all fun and games until they guess horribly wrong. And the culprit's not exactly making it any easier for them by not really trying to explain. Not that he can blame the guy - he was the same.]

And yeah, making sure he doesn't harm anyone again'd be real nice, I agree. But, realistically, the only way to make absolutely sure of that is... well.

[Killing him.]

[He knows what Zelor is implying there, and he automatically rejects that idea.]

That's not a choice we can make right here and now.

A more practical option, while at least trying to respect the wishes of those involved, would be to keep an eye on him. Not lock him up, or force him to go anywhere, but to have strong people close by for a period of time, to handle things if he tries anything fishy again.

Oh, I agree. That was my point, too - that we can't really reasonably judge him without treading on some pretty iffy territory.

[Buuut, he supposes keeping tabs on the guy for now works. Just as long as he isn't one who has to do that.

Still, he already started to play the Devil's advocate, so he might as well---]

Well, that's all fine and good as long as he doesn't become a burden. It's difficult enough to keep ourselves safe, sometimes, yeah? And, well, not entirely sure how we should decide on that period of time. However long it is, if he really wants to cause trouble, he can just do it when he's free again.

[Really, no matter what they choose, there's gonna be problems.]
