Sorry, it's just. Y'know, I've been kind of on edge after what happened. Got killed by one of those things once already, and now Angel's missing, so...
[He shrugs, trying to look a little apologetic.]

I gotcha. Lord knows we're all anxious 'bout her. [And also Rhys, probably. Clayton lets his hand fall so he can fiddle a bit with his tablet, now continuing to wander into the foyer. Shoot a quick message to Enoch letting him know he's arrived and where...] Least now we've got some fresh eyes t' search the place. You noticed anything 'round here that I should keep an eye out for while I'm lookin'?
no subject
There's nothing here. Trust me, I already went through every inch of this place, I didn't find anything.
[That was probably too suspicious already. There wouldn't be any reason not to let Clayton look around if he didn't have anything to hide.
Jack follows him into the other room, hand dropping ever so casually back to the pocket that holds the wrench.]

I know, I know--I'd never doubt you would fer yer daughter. [Message sent to Enoch. Clayton stops walking long enough to shuffle his tablet back in his coat pocket.] But you've stayed here a few days, ain't ya? Could be you've gotten too used t' the layout--might skip over some stuff others woulda noticed. Ain't no fault a yours, course; jus' a matter a different perspectives is all.
'Sides-- [Clayton shrugs, glances over his shoulder to track down Jack and give him an apologetic smile.] --gonna be stayin' the night here anyways. Might as well spend my time good, eh?

[He lets go of the wrench, a different plan forming in his head. He can't convince Clayton to leave without raising suspicions. Killing him would be too messy right now, he might come back and cause problems.
There's only one option Jack can think of. It's not perfect, and there could still be issues if someone comes looking for Clayton... but it's all he's got.]
Mind if I look with you? Don't really want to just sit around doing nothing.
no subject
Plenty happy if ya did! [He grins, turns back around and sets off immediately to the task. First step: Take inventory of all the rooms, see if anything pops out at him to check on the second round. Clayton starts opening all the doors.] Jus' let me know if anything in these rooms seems off since you looked last, 'r what you've noticed from last time. Anything locked up? Got one a them fire pokers, I can try pryin' it open.
no subject
[He does note that part about the fire poker, though. That's going to need to be confiscated.
Jack follows a few steps after him, letting him go about his search peacefully. That is, until they get to the basement door.
The stairs aren't that steep, so he figures Clayton won't get too badly damaged. And if he does, it should be easy enough to call it an accident. This is going to be the easiest part of the whole thing.]
no subject
[He's animatedly talking for basically the entire time. Man's been lonely, he's got a lot of catching up to do.]
Nothin'? Ah, there's always somethin' 'bout these places--it ain't obvious at first but they all got their own kinda...thing goin' for 'em, y'know? I mean there's the weird broken-down places an' the downright creepy ones, but even the places like this, they're like...time capsules, sorta. It's eerie. See the stuff left behind an' it's like yer lookin' at some folks' lives, jus' some snapshot, frozen in time.
[He pauses with his hand on the doorknob.]
...Heh. "Frozen." Good Lord. [Clayton casually opens the door to the basement and leans over the edge of the stairs, squinting into the darkness.] Sorry 'bout that. Jack, you got some kinda flashlight 'r--
no subject
And there it is, with Clayton peering down into the basement. Too goddamn easy.
There's no need to even take out the wrench; all it takes is a good, firm shove to push him down the stairs.]
no subject
[--is the last vaguely coherent noise Clayton makes before he tumbles headfirst down the steps. There's all sorts of other very interesting, very unsettling noises that accompany him on the way down, none of them healthy, ending at some point with a dull thud as he comes to a full stop on the landing, crumpled with his arm twisted behind him. He's too shocked to understand what just happened or why he's suddenly in so much pain. Desperate, Clayton's eyes scan the darkness of the basement and spot two roughly human-sized figures within. The pieces click--he's found them! Clayton smiles with the realization.]
...Ah.
[Then he passes out.]
no subject
Uh.
What.
Is that Doctor Epps?
[ Angel gives Rhys an incredibly confused look - seriously, what - and starts the incredibly awkward process of making her way towards the stairway. Awkward because her hands and ankles are still tied, meaning that she has to kind of shuffle forward on her knees and try not to fall on her face.
She's not very good at the last part. ]
Ohmygod it is. Get over here, Rhys!
no subject
[ Rhys is not nearly as reactive or responsive as Angel after the initial jolt of surprise. There are good reasons for that.
Still, he does his best to roll over to Clayton. A mixture of scooting and wiggling and the aforementioned rolling. ]
Dr. Epps? [ He waits in silence for Quite A While, passing tired, anxious looks between himself and Angel. ]
...you alive?
no subject
[Coherent thought and words come back a little bit later.]
...Just about. [They probably can't see him smile, which is for the best because it's not a happy one.] How...where's Jack?
[He's in denial. Bless his heart.]
