[He wonders if he should be getting some useful information instead of having a casual conversation, but with what has happened so far, he doesn’t really feel like changing the subject. This is nice, for once.]

It’s from the Old English word for “crown.”

[Which he thinks is appropriate, given where the bloodline ended up. He has a few thoughts on that, actually:]

I think names can shape a person- or a family- and should be chosen carefully. Your grandfather must have had something in mind for you when he gave you that name. He sounds like a very smart man to have thought of it, at least.

[Roland doesn’t know the first thing about the hard sciences and is quietly grateful Quark explained it to him. High school physics was a long time ago. Either way, he thinks Quark must be a bright kid to understand more about it than he does.]

[He listens to the way that Roland puts it, and he can't help but smile. Yeah...his Grandpa's pretty great. But he decides not to get too mushy about it, and keeps the thought to himself.]

...so, you're really the President of America, Mister?

[He has to ask. He was definitely snooping on some of the other conversations he's had so far--it's hard not to. There's not too much else to do to stay entertained and connected.]

[Roland can’t entirely conceal his surprise, and it throws out of his formalities somewhat; he’d known his broadcast would likely be public, but hadn’t realized that return calls were also fair game. Guess he had more to learn about technology in his old age than he thought.]

You saw that, huh? Yeah, I was the President.

[Then, more to himself, he remarks:] Am President, if anyone’s around to care...

[He means that in more ways than one, but doesn’t want to be grim in front of the child.]

I can’t say it’s encouraging, exactly, to have so many Americans here that don’t know who I am, but I’m thankful that they believe me, at least. [He tries to lighten up a bit.] Thanks, Quark. Even if I wasn’t your President, I hope your America was something special, too.

Well, even if you aren't my president back home, you can be my president here! Should I call you Mister President instead of Mister Crane?

[It's a nice sentiment, but he's reminded somewhat of his son's friends and their parents who would trip over themselves to call him 'President Crane' instead of something sensible.]

You can call me whatever you want to, Quark. Even 'Roland' is fine.

[Some of the children would struggle with that, so he really doesn't mind whatever Quark settles on.]

Well, if I'm going to be your President, that means you can come to me if you need my help. It'll probably be awhile before I get my bearings, but I'll do what I can. Alright?
