[She tries to wipe her eyes subtly. He won't find any red lines, and it seems like her most notable injury is a broken arm, but what's most alarming is the way that her hair was cut off roughly, as if by broken glass--or even just by greedy fingers ripping the locks straight out of her scalp. Blood mats down what remains.]
I've never felt this afraid before. I don't really know...I don't know how to...I don't know where...
[Her thoughts give several false starts as she focuses on breathing.]
I feel so lost.

Straightening up, he walked slowly into the cell where she sat and then carefully transferred himself to sit down beside her. It reminded him of the time in the highschool when they had sat and talked together.
He wasn't the best comforting influence, but at least he was a warm spot if she wished to lean against him. ]
I'm not the best gauge for a situation like this. [ Given his history with unmentionable horrors back home. ] But I think being afraid and feeling lost in circumstances like this, is probably the healthiest reaction.

[She laughs weakly. It helps to feel the presence of someone sitting close, even if she can barely bring herself to glance over at him from where her face is buried in her knees.]
I mean, like...no, I'm sorry, I don't know what I'm saying I can't think straight.
no subject
[ Will kept his voice calm, the way he could manage even when faced with surreal horror that defied the human mind. ]
But to be horrified by it? To be aware enough to be afraid of all this? That is healthy, Ginger. Not easy, but ultimately it will be what helps you survive this when it's over.
no subject
[Even now, she can't help that feeling of worry that rises up out of her gut. If she's reacting the right way, but he's the one who's able to bury it, what does he have to help him?]
no subject
Let's focus on you, hmm?
no subject
Okay.
[Ginger lets out a breath she didn't realize she was holding, and then leans back, returning the gesture.]
Thank you for sitting with me.
no subject
But for now, he sat quietly and let her lean against him if she wished. ]
We're not going anywhere anytime soon. [ He's checked the cellblock and no dice. But the words leave his mouth and sound cold to his ears, so he tries to soften them a little.
Even if he's rubbish at this whole comforting thing. ]
Best spend it helping each other, hmm?
no subject
[Helping people, in the end, is all she's ever wanted to do. That was what all the games were for, after all. All that her sewing and decorating...she knows she can't do much, but what she can do, she wants to use for others.]
Once I feel a bit more put together, I'll see if anyone else needs someone to talk to, as well.
[But...that's not to say she's taking this lightly. Not that she ever did, but now she doesn't have any of that optimistic-flavored denial to hide behind.]
What do you think...is going to happen next? [A pause.] You don't have to sugarcoat it. I'm trying to, um, be able to prepare myself for the worst. As much as is reasonable for me of all people, at least.

But even as he felt that need to protect it, he also recognized that perhaps the best way to go about it was to give her the tools to protect herself.
Looking back towards the hallway, he considered the question closely before offering a response. ]
I think there is going to be a long healing process from this, particular for those of us who are marked with the red lines. [ He was deliberate in his language, trying to identify the group without making it 'us' and 'them'. It seemed vital to keep the perception from sliding into those terms. ]
I believe Miller to be acting on his own with this, but I don't know for certain and I don't know what that means. But I don't expect him to just stop and send us back because things didn't work the way he wanted them too. Which means, unless someone can intervene, we're going to be subjected to more drugs and more experiments.
[ That was the bad news. Shifting slightly, Will leaned forward and tried to catch her eyes. ]
What we have down here, is each other, Ginger. What comes, comes but we're not alone, right?
no subject
None of us are alone. We never have been and we never will be, even if it feels like it...some times more than others.
[And this too shall pass. Even the worst times pass in light of something better. She can't let herself forget.]
Thank you for saying that. For saying all of it.
no subject
Instead, ignoring the spike of pain that shot up his arm, he gave her ear a playful poke. ]
You're welcome. [ He said simply. ] Are you going to be okay? Can I try to find anyone for you?
no subject
[She holds up her good arm as if to flex it.]
I don't look like it, but I'm actually pretty tough, you know?
[Ginger gives her head a shake.]
Thank you, but I'll walk around in a moment. I already know a few of my other friends are here. What about you?
no subject
Rolling to his knees, Will had to take a moment and balance himself as he pushed up to his feet. You never appreciated just how much you used your hands to get up and down, until you couldn't use them. ]
Oh, while I'd rather not, I imagine I'll find someone. [ He said in a tired voice, though his smile was genuine when he glanced down at him. ]
Hang in there, Ginger. But if you need me, just shout. This place isn't all that large.
