Wow. [She doesn't necessarily mean to say that out loud, but she doesn't sound skeptical--just surprised.] Um... What was that like? [That sounds like it could be pretty depressing...]

What, seeing ghosts?

[He let's out a laugh, but it comes out too sad. Especially for someone like Nathan, who's usually so unflappable. He thinks about his brother.]

The novelty wears off pretty fast when you realize ghosts only stick around where you could see 'em either to ask for shit or tell you off for being alive and kicking when they aren't. Unfinished business, you know?

[plaguenurse]

[Diana doesn't exactly know Nathan very well, but she's pretty sure he's not usually morose like this. She feels a pang of guilt for asking in the first place.] I'm sorry. That must have been difficult. [Her phrasing is not creative, but she still manages to sound genuine.] Does...that mean that they didn't become ghosts if they didn't have unfinished business?

[Nathan waves a hand in the air.]

Don't worry about it, love. I'm a tougher bastard than I look. I'm rubbish in a fight but I always bounce back.

[He's a cockroach, is what he's saying.]

Mind, this is just speculation, yeah? But I'm guessing not. Otherwise I'd reckon I'd see a lot more than I do. If there's a better place to be when your body is six feet under, what's the point in sticking around?

[plaguenurse]

That makes sense. [Ghosts in movies and stuff always have unfinished business, but Diana never really thought about the deeper implications of it. She didn't consider what it would be like if it were real.] I guess they might miss their friends and families... Maybe that's unfinished business, too?

I feel like I'd miss the people I cared about.

[notaquaman]

Shit's rough. Doesn't matter what side of the ground you're on--you always end up missing someone.

[He crosses his arms over his knees and sighs. Fuck.]

But they always say you meet your friends and family there eventually anyway, the great beyond or whatever, yeah?
