Not just the usual shit. It's something they give us in the shots, maybe. All these drugs.

[He plucks at his hospital bracelet.]

It's why we can't see the ghosts, or the spiders. I mean, we can see the ghosts but the wrong ones.

So now there's additional drugs to the overall drugs. That's great.

[But his heart is not really into it. Pretending this is all just a big trip has been getting consistently harder over the weeks.

He pauses.]

What do you see?

[Sorry to disappoint you, man. It's real as an experience can be, especially once they start cutting.]

Blood. Footprints. Walking around.

Ghosts like to be dramatic. Nothing new. It's when they start screaming or crying or trying to stab you that it gets fucked up.

That's some haunted house shit right there.

[He knows he asked but can he like, have ONE normal conversation in this town.]

Do you just get like this when you are a ghost or do the most dramatic shits get to be ghosts?

Mostly you only wind up a ghost if you got Issues.

Like, sometimes you can be a good ghost. Stick around and watch the grandkids, make sure Kitty PawPaw finds a good home, that kind of shit.

But sometimes you're just screaming crazy and don't want people touching your shit just because you're dead.

[He thinks this through for a moment.]

... Yeah, I'd be the second.

[Rhys chuckles quietly.]

Good to be honest about it, at least.

You got ghosts where you're from? Or just a lot of drugs?

[jmencalisse]

Hey, somebody touches my shit? No mercy.

[Look, the thought of some asshole trying to wreck his car after he is gone is enough to make his blood boil.]

Never ran into one. Just the drugs, I think. ... But that was before I got here. I am not so sure anymore.

[sleight_of_fate]

[Rhys laughs. He'd offer a fistbump, but, well. It's the thought that counts, right?]

This place is kind of the best of all worlds. Bad tech, bad drugs, bad ghosts. I got stabbed by one, even. They're angry fuckers.

It's all tied together somehow, but I haven't figured it out. It just...is. Just gotta live through it, like anything else.

[He tilts his head as the footprints stop at the wall, and turn into butterfly arrangements of handprints on the wall. Sorry, blood ghost. Rhys already tried that.]

... How does one get stabbed by a ghost? I thought they were all... ghostish.

[Martin comments on his eloquence and inquires if he has never seen a horror movie in his life.]

Why don't you fuck off? Or be a helpful ghost and stab whoever put us in here?

Ghosts are energy. When they get everything moving in the right direction, they can go poltergeist. Throw things, break things, write on walls, stab you. I've had a ghost throw a whole block of kitchen knives at me b'fore.

[The phantom in his cell starts fingerpainting with the blood, big roundish flowers that melt into black smears and vanish back into the floor.]

These ghosts are special. Computer ghosts. I dunno. Everyone dead here on tape.

Like in the movies. Alright, I get it.

[A beat.]

Like, threw the block-block or all the knives...?

All of the knives. Pulled 'em out of the block, and sent 'em pointy-end first.

[It had been an experience.]

Should've stuck with bartending but you know. Sucker for punishment, I guess.
