I think it's almost exactly the same.

I didn't join in, but that's probably what the Morphogenetic Field is like. If you know what you're doing, you connect to one person at a time. You hear what they're thinking, and if you're good at it, you can even feel the same things, or see through their eyes...

When you guys did it, everyone was trying for someone else. My guess is the connections just got crossed. That might be why it was such a mess. Why people were getting hurt, and the conversations just went in circles.

... I got shot down the last time I said it, but I think the fact that it's there at all means it should be possible to contact them one at a time, now that we know how. It should be possible to go back in and get straight answers, if you know who you're looking for. Or just access their memories directly, if you've already managed to get close.

I managed to single out one of them. The Russian woman. I was too distracted to ask for her name, but for a moment it was like... [His hands come up in a slightly helpless gesture while he's looking for words.]

Like the crowd parted and she stepped forward and talked to me. She left tally marks in one of the houses, when I asked about that her voice was singled out.

[His nose curls in dissatisfaction.] Wish I would have asked her better questions. It was... really hard to focus in there. [It's always hard to focus. A multitude of voices in his head did not help with that.]

So you have a connection with her now. You could probably contact her alone, if you wanted.

[No, that's a lie. He can't possibly count how many times he tried to contact Akane again. How many times she refused to answer. Had his thoughts ever even reached her since that day...?]

Well, you could if she wants to, as well. But it doesn't hurt to reach out, I don't think. And it's using the field more and more that makes you better at it, so maybe it's the same here. If we just keep trying, who knows? Maybe we'll just suddenly know all about the past sessions.

[They've really strayed off topic, though, haven't they?

But that's not gonna get us outta this room.

There's no other way out. Something's telling us to jump. Not with words, but still. What if that something is someone? What if it's that same kind of connection?

[Maybe he's grasping at straws, here, but it's a new angle. That has to be worth something.]

[That's... actually not a bad idea. People had contacted single ghosts before and maybe she would even remember Flynn?]

Maybe I'll try that. ... You know. Given that we survive today and get back to the city and won't be swallowed whole.

[Yes, Flynn, there's a giant pit in the middle of the room, we know.

You mean the pit could be unrelated to the pull. And if that's the case, something - or someone - else could be in here with us.

That's right. Although, not necessarily in here.

If it is the same, they could be anywhere. Any time. Might be one of those ghosts. Might be overlapping between sessions. But either way, they might be able to hear us, too.

[But what do they even do with that? Ask for a way out? Surely everyone's thought of that already, and it's clear nobody's--

... No, that's not true.]

Problem is, if we get through to it, what if that pull just gets stronger?

It's a risk. But I think it's worth a shot.

[He rubs the top of his head, turning in a half-circle.]

... Maybe one of us could try it and the other makes sure he doesn't jump? If the pull gets stronger or something else happens.

Right. Let me just go over to that hole and ask it to close.

[He shakes his head. Well, it's not that he thinks it definitely won't work. It's more.. isn't that what's happened to the others? Isn't it way too likely to happen to them as well?

But at the same time, can he really be okay with doing nothing?

Of course nothing immediate comes of the attempt. Even if his ability to transmit hadn't been stripped away, it's not like he really knows how to do it, in the first place.]

[Flynn watches Junpei a little uneasily. A part of him would like to reverse their roles, would like to be the one to talk to the hole and also not be the one responsible for keeping Junpei from jumping but--

When the questions come he leans forward to peer into the hole and maybe if he got just a little closer, just a little, then--

No, no, he needs to stay alert, he has a task here, it's his task to keep Junpei from--

God, this is difficult.]

Maybe it can give us a sign. Ask it to give us a sign. ... That isn't 'digging into our heads and trying to bring us to jump', ideally.

Gotta be honest, here. I think that's the only "sign" it can give...

Yeah. Would it really hurt it to give us a big one with flashing lights and all that, pointing at the exit? You know, one that's not down there. Maybe some sorta invisible door in the wall. Like in that movie with the train platform?

[But that theory's too stupid and painful to test. Okay. He should focus. He should get a little closer to that pit, looking down into that.. nothingness...]

We could... walk the wall and test it for structural weakness. Or secret chambers.

The corners aren't sealed. They have to have some sorta reinforcement behind them, but it's a start.
