[ Royce leans a little more heavily into Alfie, closing his eyes for a second. ]

I'll stay close. Just in case someone else gets ideas.

If we need to sleep here, we should sleep in shifts.

[bywolves]

Yeah. Agreed. You can sleep first, if you need to.

[devoutish]

I'm fine. Not as tired as I should be.

[bywolves]

Me either. Not wide awake, but I'm not exhausted.

Thoughts of the hole getting worse?

[bywolves]

Yeah. [ A beat. ]

We should just do it. Get it over with.

[devoutish]

Mm. Right now?

[bywolves]

Why not? [ Shrug. ]

[devoutish]

[He murmurs in agreement - before shifting to stand, reaching down to help Royce up too.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce pulls himself up, and sighs. ]

Should take our things with us. Just in case.

[devoutish]

Well, that'll help. It'll weigh us down.

[Your joke are dumb, Alfie.]

[bywolves]

You're ridiculous.

[ It's okay, Royce doesn't mind. He takes his things, piles them on as usual, and then takes Alfie's arm. ]

Come on, then.

[devoutish]

[Alfie grabs up everything that Royce doesn't, and together, they walk to the edge of the pit. When they're just half a foot or so away, Alfie stops, just staring down into it.]

[bywolves]

Second thoughts?

[devoutish]

Trepidation.

[Which isn't the same. He squeezes Royce's hand. Ready?]

[bywolves]

Mm. [ He's ready. ] Let's go. Before someone tries to stop us.

[ And he'll step off the side without much more hesitation. ]

[devoutish]

[Alfie goes with him, still holding his hand.]
