Oh yeah.

[ She shrugs it off with the easy, careless air of someone who is hiding the fact that they care really a lot. ]

Dad tried to shoot me himself, but I was too quick for him.

What the hell's wrong with him?

[ That might have been a loud crack of a fist hitting the floor. It echoes just a little bit in the room and his fist feels a little sore after, but he doesn't care. She might shrug it off, but that doesn't make it any less- ]

That's messed up!

[ Steph's reaction is a weird combination of pleased and embarrassed. She knows it's messed up, but her feelings about her parents are... complicated. Sometimes it's nice to have outside input. ]

Who knows? He's dead now, so we'll never get a proper diagnosis. I dunno about Mom. She said she had nothing to do with it, but... nothing really added up.

If she had nothing to do with it, then how come she was in on taking over a city, too?

[ She did just say both of her parents had been involved, right? Or did he mishear in his heated anger? Either way, he tries to cool it. Tries to, but it's hard. Hard to think... Zack curses and looks away. ]

[ Steph just shrugs. It would be nice if she could think her mother wasn't involved, but she can't bring herself to really believe that. ]

Anyway, I had assassins coming after me like, every other day. Couldn't stay in one place long enough to sew a whole suit.

No kidding... [ The bitterness seems to almost overflow for a second in those words. Almost sounds a little too personal, but Zack slowly shakes his head after a minute. ]

Guess it really doesn't matter now. [ Her father's dead. Good chances that means everything went toppling over after that if he was the head of it all, right? That's what he figures anyway.

Still leaves a sour taste in his mouth as he pushes himself back up off the ground now. ]

[ Steph stays on the ground for the moment, looking at the hole but not really seeing it. ]

You can see why I'm not sure about going back to Gotham, though.

Yeah... Yeah, I can definitely see why. [ He admittedly sounds distracted as he scans the group over again. Kunsel he can make out at least. Hard to miss him considering his helmet. He's there. So's a handful of other familiar faces.

No Zell though. And no Jim. One of the hands on his hips tightens into a fist. ] So, go with Al.

[ She huffs a sigh. ]

It's complicated. My world has more advanced tech than either his or Zach's. It probably has to be my first stop.

And what if you can't just.. world surf like that?

[ Because there's a good chance that might be the case. Maybe they have to pick one and go and that's it. That's what he'd always figured anyway, but maybe he's wrong. Who knows? ]

[ She shrugs. Don't think the thought hasn't crossed her mind. ]

Then... I dunno. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Guess that's all you can really do..

[ Granted they ever get out of there in the first place. That's hard to say. But he doesn't say anything more about that. What else is there really to say? Hesitating, he watches her for a little more before slowly hiking a thumb over his shoulder. ]

I'm gonna... go check on the others. Just make sure everyone's okay. Maybe do a head count, too, while I'm at it.

Yeah. [ Makes sense for him, she figures. She’s more interested in the pit. ] I’ll see what I can find out about that thing.
