I believe they can. It's worth trying, if you're willing to.

[Why he's not willing, he doesn't want to say. He pulls out a bottle full of pills. The label says it's called doxepin, prescribed to him by John Watson for the treatment of depression. The pills inside have all been cut in half.]

I've halved them for you - this should be a safe amount. Would any of your companions know enough to watch you, to ensure they work properly?

[He remembers, vaguely, Clayton saying Quark would need supervision if he took antidepressants, for being so small. But seeing him like this...he needs any help he can get.]

Yeah. I'm traveling with Diana and she has medical training, just like Luna.

["Just like Luna" are three words that he doesn't need to add, but it comes out automatically. This place really is bringing out the worst, most vulnerable of intrusive thoughts, it seems. Quark takes the bottle and cautiously untwists the top to look inside.]

How do I know if they're working?

If you can't see it in yourself, she would be able to tell for you. It can be difficult to gauge your own feelings. Is she down here with us? We could tell her about it now.

[And it would distract one more person from the pit, if so.

...He also doesn't actually know but he assumes it's generally about feeling better. That's what they're for, isn't it?]

I guess that makes sense. Sometimes I don't realize that I look as sad as people can tell that I do.

[He hesitates.]

She's here, but...I think maybe right now might not be a good time to talk about it.

[She probably has a lot on her mind, too.]

But I'll tell her when we're back out, I promise.

If you're certain... It would be a distraction from the pit's pull, if she should need one. I don't know how long we'll be here.

[He's a little worried. He knows he forgot all about this medication after something terrible happened. Quark might do the same.]
