Doing nothing accomplishes nothing. If you wanna just sit on your ass, go away and talk to someone else.

What can we do? [He snaps at him.] Besides doing what they want? I am not going to do what they want, no matter what the consequences are. Not playing is still doing something.

Measure, test, analyze. What the hell do you think I'm doing? Playing pick-up-stix? We get as much information as we can and use the opportunity to learn things they weren't counting on us paying attention to. And then when we decide we've got everything we can from up top, then we go down to see what the next piece of the puzzle is. Or some people go down. Some people stay up here as a control.

[What House was saying was perfectly valid, but Mycroft only hones in on the latter part.]

That's what they want. Why would you give them what they want? Who knows what's going to happen to the people who go down there!?

[House pauses what he's doing to look up and give Mycroft the most disparaging expression he's capable of.]

Why would you want that? The only good they've ever done is keep us barely alive as it is. They don't want anything for us that will be good for us, for one thing. We are nothing more than lab rats to them!

The thing about lab rats? You kill them all at the end of the trial, whether they participated or not. The only difference is, the ones who played ball got the cheese sometimes.

I, for one, refuse to play their ridiculous games. The cheese is a hollow victory.
