[ Whoa whoa calm down there. Squalo leans a bit away, clear suspicion on his face, as the stranger addresses him. ]

I've got a rope.

[ Though he makes no motion to retrieve it. Elaborate first, please. ]

Hand it over. I'll give it back later.

[You're going to need to be a little more specific about wanting information, Squalo.]

[ He could, but also: ]

Collateral.

[ Look sometimes someone just has to strangle someone with a rope and it's none of his business to pry. He does intend not to get the short end of the stick when the borrower inevitably "forgets" to return the thing, though. ]

[ Look he's even pulling it out of his bag. That looks like... a noose? ]

Gesundheit.

[House makes a gimme motion with the fingers of his outstretched hand.]

Nuh-uh.

[ HOLDS IT AWAY while returning the gesture with his other hand ]

Don't act like a 2-year-old. I'll give it back when I'm done.

Done with what, exactly?

Seeing if I can poke whatever's down there in the eye with a mallet.

[ Alright, he's gotta laugh at that. Admittedly, that's a more solid plan than anything he's got planned for the rope, so he weighs it in his hand for a moment, then tosses it at House. ]

[ ... ]

I'm still expecting it back.

[rubikscomplex]

[House catches the rope deftly.]

Yeah, yeah.

[He shuffles away and goes to add the rope as the last piece of his masterwork of an eye-poking tool. Squalo's free to come watch. House is just lowering a mishmash of about 50 feet of 'rope' down into the hole.]

[ He's definitely going to watch, though he keeps a couple steps away from the edge just in case the pit suddenly decides to expand. ]

[ Whether or not this works, it's currently the most entertaining thing in the room. ]

[rubikscomplex]

[House gets down to the end of his makeshift rope and wrinkles his nose as he dips his hand into the pit and swings it. He can feel and hear the mallet hitting the side of the pit, but that's it.]

Cthulhu's hanging low today. Asshole. Lame.

[He starts pulling it back up.]

You planning on going in?

[sharktrash]

[ Squalo makes a disappointed noise as the rope runs out... maybe halfway to whatever may or may not be at the bottom? It's hard to say, but it's as if the thing kept getting deeper the lower the mallet got. Lame indeed. ]

[ He frowns, mentally shoving at the urge in the back of his mind that immediately pipes up at the suggestion. Yes! You want to get out of there, right? Well right now the only way out is through here. ]

I'm planning on not going in. You?

I need to finish a few experiments and measurements. After that I'm going in.

[It's said matter-of-factly as the mallet comes out fully and House unloops Squalo's noose from the head.]

[sharktrash]

[ His eyebrows rise a bit, but he doesn't look particularly surprised otherwise. ]

Why?

[rubikscomplex]

[House shrugs and pulls the noose free completely, offering it up to Squalo.]

I wanna see what happens. Don't you?

[sharktrash]

[ He takes it, though there's a hint of suspicion in his expression. Not about the noose, of course. ]

Sure. I'd rather see what happens when someone else takes a dive, though.

[rubikscomplex]

I'm pretty sure most people would. Guess that leaves us brave souls to do the work for you lazy assholes.

[sharktrash]

[ The tiniest twitch in his cheek suggests that the bait's at least partially successful. He's never been called a coward before, even though it's a mere implication. He bares his teeth and shoves his hands into his pockets to look as disinterested as possible. ]

There's a difference between being brave 'n being suicidal.

[rubikscomplex]

Yuh huh. And this is...

[House trails off. No. No, he's not going to try to argue this guy into jumping into the pit.]

For science. Excuse me. I need to go do more of that. Science and all.

[He stands up, picks up his pack, and starts to move off, dragging his failed makeshift rope after him.]

[sharktrash]

[ We're all very proud of you, House. It probably wouldn't be a difficult provocation at all. ]

[ Squalo is mostly happy to let him go, though he's still irked, so he's just going to stomp on that dragging rope like some kind of messy tail. ]

Voi! Hold it a sec. What science? You really think there's anything to learn here?

[ He's not necessarily doubting it. Rather, he's almost willing to assist if it doesn't include him taking a plunge. ]

[House seriously considers just untying to piece that Squalo has stepped on, but they'll probably just repeat the process until the rope's too short. The doctor has no desire to go and collect the scattered pieces after that. Still, he makes poor life choices about some things.]

The science of your mom. I'm thinking we can learn which way she likes it best. Wanna answer a few questions for science?

[sharktrash]

[ Damn it House, it's like you want someone to punch you into the hole. For a moment, Squalo tries to decide between screeching indignation and complete shutdown, then gives him an ugly grin, stepping off the rope as a signal to get the fuck out of his reach while he can. ]

Why don't you pay her and find out?

[House reels in the extra line quickly, looping it around one arm. He can't help pausing when Squalo snaps back.]

I'm sure you think that's witty repartee. But unless your mom really was a hooker... I mean, it's cool if she is. I was just calling her honor into question. I didn't say she was getting paid for it.

But if that's the case... who's your daddy, Bi-boy?
