Yeah. Balmy. I'm really comfortable, actually.

[He's already stripped off the extra layers he'd put on for sleeping, himself. He doesn't seem thrilled about it, somehow. Almost like he associates being warm with impending torture or something.]

Hmm.

[ This is not a good state for Stephen to be in. Steph takes a moment to strip off all her extra layers, leaving her in her Spoiler getup when she stands up and moves around in front of him. ]

Hey. We're okay. Okay? We've got our gear. I for one am armed. We're gonna be okay.

[She interrupts his view of the pit and it seems to cut off some train of thought -- he lets out a sigh as his eyes slip shut a moment only to turn upward at her a second later.]

Right now, yeah. Right now we're okay -- but this room doesn't have any doors, and that is a very deep hole over there.

[ She smiles wryly. ]

Neither did the maze at first. Besides, maybe the hole is the door.

That's kind of what I'm afraid of. I find myself thinking about it a little too often.

[ It's worth investigating. But. ]

I've got a couple of books. Would that help?

Sure, if we're just going to sit here and wait.

[Stephen that's exactly what you've been doing all morning.]

[ Since that's literally what he's doing right now, she goes to her bag and pulls out the murder mystery... and the magic eye book. She drops both in his lap. ]

Knock yourself out.

[thewarningafter]

[He flinches, having gone back to giving his attention to the pit in the brief moments she was gone. Stephen turns incredulous eyes on her.]

Steph...what is this, what are we doing? This isn't a waiting room. I'm not going to sit here and read.

[Stupid, really. He'd be excited about the murder mystery any other time.]

You're sitting here staring at a hole in the ground inches away from a panic attack. You're sure as hell not getting anything productive done. Relax. Doctor's orders.

[Stephen's gaze seems to sharpen on her, but that's probably a good sign. So's the scoff that comes from deep in his chest.]

Think you've got our relationship a little backwards.

[ She smiles. ]

Backwards is just how I roll.

Yeah, just be careful how much backwards rolling you do in here.
