*He points to the pit then cants his head. She was examining it, right?*

[She questions, pointing to it too.]

*He nods, then points to her bag.

If she's going she wants her stuff.*

[She nods, curling an arm around one of the backpack's straps. Okay.]

You, you don't talk.

[She says, hesitantly. Don't get her wrong, she digs it, but it's a surprise.]

*He nods, then pulls out a notebook and taps it. He can write, though? Surely she could read, everyone seemed to be able to over the tablets.*

[She makes grabby hands for the notebook, though it's not writing she has in mind. Whether or not he hands it over, she pulls one of her own out of her backpack, and a pen along with it.]

*He pulls the notebook back as she grabs for it--this is his thank you. After she pulls out her own, though, he scribbles in his before showing the page to her.*

[Lilly has never really been exposed to writing before. Mama didn't write, Victoria didn't write, and nobody who'd had them after they'd come out of the woods had tried to teach her, because there had always been other, more basic things to focus on - like trying to get her to stop pissing on the floor, for instance. She's seen words in passing, on signs or in books, but hasn't paid enough attention to what other people are doing to figure out that they derive meaning from these little squiggles. So, Brian's words just get a glance and a slightly furrowed brow before she turns her attention to her own notebook. She draws him a picture of a moth. You're welcome, buddy.]

*Clearly that moth is an answer to his question.

He points to himself and write "brian," then after a moment adds a crossed out circle for good measure.*

[Lilly's frown deepens. That doesn't look like him at all. She points to him, then draws a stick figure version of him. There, that's much better.]

*Ooooh.

He draws his own stick figure people. One is taller and has a frowny face and one is shorter with no other identifiying features. But its totally them.*

[She draws a frowny face on the smaller figure, too. There you go, Brian.]

*He shakes his head, points to the frowny face on his mask then points to the taller figure. He then points to her and then the shorter figure. She doesn't have the sort of :( that he has.*

[She taps the paper insistently. That's right, she did it on purpose and she meant it, what of it?]

*He considers for a moment, then scribles a moth over the smaller figure's frowny face.*

[That's acceptable. She nods, satisfied, and draws a dark mass of scribbles next to the small figure.]

*He points at hte scribbles and cants his head. What's that?*

Mama.

[She adds a few more scribbles around the top of it, picky about how it looks despite the apparent randomness of it.]

*He cants his head to the other side. Mama?*

Mama.

[She taps the scribbles insistently. That's right, that's what she said.]

*He's not really sure what 'mama' means but apparently its something (one?) important.

He adds a tall figure near his. Its face is blank except for an X over it.*

[She's going to try to draw a frowny face on top of the X, if he doesn't stop her. Helping!]

*He stops her, placing his hand over the figure's 'face'. He shakes his head.*

[She just looks at him. Why not?]
