But the mention of Marie's name just intensifies the fear. Everyone had teased her for having a crush on him since they were kids, but not even Marie had really recognized that Stein's affection for her had been there for almost as long.]

She's too trusting. That's going to get her killed one of these days.

[And while it is true that Kid had been terrified of what Stein might be when he'd awoken from the surgery, there remains the part of him that also trusts the doctor as well. And Kid trusts Professor Stein, at least in part, and he trusts him enough that he believes that Madness might overtake him for a period of time--but it would not win.
