[ Castiel does glance over at Ecks when the message goes up, but this time it's a response to a public conversation. Having it be visible to those who might also find it relevant makes sense. ]

There were many books of rules written in my Father's name. Many of them were even written by His prophets after they received revelation. But they could never seem to account for everything. There were people who dedicated their entire lives to interpreting the vaguer passages, or determining which were the Word of God and which were words men had slipped in between.

Sometimes the books seemed to cause more division and strife than they prevented.

[ Castiel has to think about things for a long time before responding. Angels are not supposed to need books of rules or codes of conduct to tell them how to be, as they have the will of God and the chorus of Heaven to direct them in all things. To ask feels... wrong. Like he's abandoning something.

Even if one or maybe even both of those things abandoned him first.

In the absence of any other guidance, could he really be faulted for seeking structure? ]

What is your definition of friendship?

[Castiel will get to watch as Ecks literally gets that book out and consults it as she types a reply, still just across the room from him.]

-A friend is somebody you like and you want to spend time with and care about.
-Friends make each other happy.
-A friend should not deliberately hurt a friend, or not care if they hurt them.
