No. [It's a reply for Kid, as well as her offer to help free him. He needs to get out. He should be out, helping them hunt the others but there's a part of him that's still resisting.]

I shouldn't... I want... Mm. [He closes his eyes and falls silent.]

No?

[She's not clear on what his answer refers to.]

I do not understand.

Leave the handcuffs. Just... just leave them, Ecks. Please. It's a game. We have to catch Kid if I'm to get out or it's cheating.

[Is Ecks against cheating? He hopes she is. John's also not sure what to do about the fact that he's struggling hard even now against the desire to tell her to just break the chain or pick the lock and get him out. Even with an eye missing, he could get a few people. Maybe in a few hours. The drugs he's taken are making everything spin a little.]

This is not a good time to play a game, Doctor Watson. There are bad people here to hurt the prophet and we need to kill them.

[She's absolutely against cheating. She just knows better than to think this is all a game.]

I know! I know... [John grimaces because he does know.] D'you think any of them were tricked, though? Into hurting the Prophet? Norfinbury?

Yes.

[There's little doubt of it in her mind, really, as soon as he suggests it. It is easy enough to be tricked or coerced into doing bad things.]

But they did hurt the prophet.

[jumpthegun]

[They marked out the Prophet's eye, and that's certainly hurtful, she's right.]

What if some of them didn't realize what they were doing?

[ecks]

I did not always know what I was doing, but the people I killed are dead anyway.

[And at one point she was looking for forgiveness for that.]

I don't blame you for what you did, Ecks. You were being used.

[ecks]

Do you not blame the people who might have been tricked into hurting the Prophet?

[jumpthegun]

I... I dunno. [John grimaces.] Kids... the kids are the ones I'm worried about. I think most of them are on the right side, but something about this doesn't feel right.

[ecks]

If they are being used they still must be stopped. When I was being used I hurt many people because I was not stopped.

I have not seen any children. If I find children who have hurt the Prophet, I can kill them more quickly than the others.

[jumpthegun]

[Logically, he knows that's true.]

Yeah. You're right, I guess. It's what's right. [A nod as the madness takes a deeper hold.] Kid--Death the Kid--he might not know any better, but someone should make sure he's stopped. Same for Bucky, but you'll need someone with you to take him on.

[ecks]

[She will regret this logic. Thankfully she won't get a chance to actually act on it.]

You could come with me if I pick the lock.

[jumpthegun]

[John shakes his head again.]

No. I'll slow you down, be a liability, Ecks. I've been drugged and it's hard for me to focus my vision. I'm not much use fighting. You'd just have to be taking care of me.

[ecks]

[She considers this. She looks at his damaged face as she considers this and the other injuries he has sustained when dealing with dangerous people.

He has a point.]

Do you have a weapon to defend yourself against sinners if they come here?

[jumpthegun]

Yes.

[That's a lie, and he doesn't know why he's saying it to her. Ecks is trying to help. She's on his side.]

Wounded one of them with my scalpel already.

[That's less of a lie because it's true. John just leaves out that Sylar then took his scalpel.]

[ecks]

[Ecks gives a little nod and straightens.]

I will find them and I will be fast.

[Unless he has anything else to say for her, she's turning to go.]
