[Log] A friend, a friend is all I need [Closed]
Characters: Toriel & Sans
Location R-10
Date: Day 76, later afternoon.
Summary: Sans and Toriel finally find each other after days of searching. Toriel is more than relieved to see her friend again.
Warnings:bad jokes Tearful reunions, child death mention.
If she never saw snow again, Toriel would be happy. The boss monster stifled a frustrated sound, lifting the hem of her skirt to avoid getting it too damp from the heavy white powdery snow on the ground. It was unlikely she was going to escape completely dry, but the thought was enticing enough to keep her trying.
Toriel could see another building in the distance, with the day drawer nearer to an end and threat of things getting colder, the goat isn't about to dawdle. Toriel mulls over her supplies wondering what she'll do for the night.
It takes her a moment before she really sees what lay before her beyond the building. Sans. The familiar lazy gait through the snow is hard to miss even from this far away.
She's knocked breathless before she quickens her step, cupping her hand around her mouth to strengthen her call. "Sans!"

She's knocked breathless before she quickens her step, cupping her hand around her mouth to strengthen her call. "Sans!"

Sans makes his way to the building, picking his way through deep snow with hands securely in his pockets and hood up. He's possibly humming something to himself as he tries brainstorming new jokes--you've got to pass the time somehow during your journey. And he wouldn't admit it, but he's got a little accustomed to having company while journeying through town. Being alone like this again with just his thoughts lets his mind wander...
But Toriel will be in the area. He brightens as he spies the silhouette of the next building through the snowfall. Maybe he could practice knock-knock jokes if he reaches it before her--
Or... maybe he could hear her approaching already.
He perks up immediately and beelines towards her voice, waving a hand through the air. Like, just in case he's too short and distant through the chill mist. "Tori--!" Time to pick up the pace and meet her half-way.
no subject
"Sans!" Is her response hurrying her pace further. Her excitement and relief go hand in hand as she runs to meet him. Being relatively alone these past few days has only made her craving for companionship even stronger.
Toriel is glad the snow hasn't gotten any heavier as the two finally found themselves face to face again. Kicked up snow settling behind them as Toriel smiled down at the punny skeleton.
"You don't know how happy I am to see you."
no subject
But that's too much trouble for him to get worked up over.
This place is dangerous, he knows. And yet... maybe he just can't muster up the effort to be properly in dread over it, even for the sake of the people he cares for. It's a personal failing. He considers this with a blank skeleton smile, which falters for just a blink--and then widens again. In every appearance, and sincerely too, he really is glad to see her. "Hey, same." Winks. "It warms my heart to see you, too." Even if the rest of them might be kind of freezing.
no subject
Toriel knows it's sappy, a bit silly considering she hadn't had the chance to truly miss them the way they had missed her- but it felt right in its own way. A comfort against the unknown that lay before her.
She had no idea what this place could do to them, and it terrified her. Toriel knew the mountain, she knew the human world to some extent, this was an unknown she wasn't quite sure how to handle. She wasn't about to let the uncertainty consume her. Not when stakes seemed so high.
no subject
But hugging Toriel was. It was really nice.
He might need this, too, after the past few days. Sans freezes up at first--heh, freeze--a bit wide-eyed in surprise, even if he probably shouldn't be. Then thaws more into the hug and embraces her back, hesitantly, wrapping his arms around her waist. He's short okay...
"Thanks, Tori." Yeah, he would never admit it out loud, but. He kind of needed a hug. He doesn't quite look her in the eye--he'd still failed her and Frisk both, after all, so it's a question of whether he even deserves this hug in the first place. "For worrying over the state of my bones." And for much more.
no subject
Toriel doesn't quite know everything that is going on with Sans, nor does she expect the skeleton monster to actually tell her much of anything about himself. All Toriel has is a rough idea that not everything is quite what it appears to be on surface level.
She breaks away after a moment, not wanting to make her friend uncomfortable. She dusts off her robes, trying to keep some of the snow from clinging and soaking into the fabric. "Now, where were you headed before we found one another?"
no subject
This town was, too. But at least they could face it together.
He finally rocks back on his heels a bit, shoving his hands back in his pockets as if satisfying a hug quota for the day. Or for a week. Who knows? Anyway, back to business. Sans nods at the nearest building, now behind him-- "I gotta admit, you've got pretty sharp eyes to pick me out from the nearest snow poff back there. Think we should bunk down there for the night?" Evening was coming, and it tends to fall quite fast.
no subject
"It would be for the best. There won't likely be that much light left soon." Toriel spares the sky a wary almost accusatory glance, she'll let the question go since it doesn't matter too much in the moment. Her gaze drops back down to the skeleton as she continues. "Knowing our luck, I'd lose you immediately in another snow poff if we tried any other place."
no subject
... That's sappy and stupid, Sans. But it's embarrassingly true too, so there.
"We haven't been that unlucky with getting lost yet, have we? You don't want to jinx this, Tori." Are they suspicious enough to believe in warning flags?
no subject
If he's going to be sappy, Sans can enjoy it being returned in kind by Toriel.
"I'll try not to. I'd rather not jinx us this soon." She's quick to jump in with that, half wary they might just have something happen before they settle in for the night.
no subject
And upon approaching the building in the distance, it becomes more and more apparent that it's... it's really kind of a husk of a building, honestly. Most of the town is in ruins (ha) and falling down on itself, but this one definitely looks in terrible condition, even for Norfinbury. Most of the walls have been blown out and piled high with snow. Would it even be possible to shelter here?
Sans peers through the ruined door, then reaches out and gives it a knock. It practically falls right on down from the tap. Wow. "This place has been through some hard knocks."
no subject
Toriel gives a snort at Sans's comment, casting a smile in his direction. "That is certainly the nice way to put it." The pair don't have much of a choice on where to stay.
"We best make ourselves comfortable now, I can tell this will be an interesting night."
no subject
Sans pulls open the last door and stares inside for a moment.
"Hey, Tori. What do you call a person who daydreams while taking a bath?" Wow, is this really the time for wisecracks?
no subject
She glances down at Sans, a smirk rising to the surface. There is always a time for wisecracks. Better than crying over the terrible turn their life had taken. "I have no idea. What do you call them?"
no subject
... It's a bathroom.
no subject
"Well, the tub looks big enough for both of us." Even if Sans doesn't feel cold in the same way she does, she isn't about to make the skeleton sleep on the floor. "I'm sure it'll suffice for an evening."
no subject
"Beggars can't be choosers." Tub, though? Together?? Slightly awkward but...!! "But I guess I'm up for that arrangement, as long as you don't mind. I know bones aren't exactly the most comfortable thing to snuggle up to in a sleepover."
He carefully steps inside, not exactly like he's afraid of any booby traps near the sink or anything, but. It's definitely going to be a lil cramped. But, on the bright side, it'll be easily searched? Probably won't have much, but them's the breaks.
no subject
Toriel steps into the room, setting her bag down next to the tub. Opting to stay out of the skeleton's way as he starts searching. The room itself is far too small for both of them to do anything well at once. She's a bit too big for the cramped bathroom.
no subject
"You don't have to worry about me. I can catch some shut-eye anywhere. I'm so good at sleeping, I can do it with my eyes closed." Wink.
no subject
"So the offer is still there, if not it's all fine. I don't want to make you uncomfortable." Sleeping arrangements aren't terribly a big deal. She's had to sleep in worse places on the run before the settled into the mountain.
Toriel lightly leans back against the rim of the tub, now having to glance back at it. It is equally cold to the touch, but would warm up with her in it.
no subject
Bones aren't too comfortable and warm in contrast to fur, but he hesitantly slides down to sit on the rim of the tub instead. Oh god, being that close to Toriel is... well. It's something. Good thing skeletons can't blush.
"You sure it's fine?" But the lack of jokes and the embarrassed pitch of his voice practically gives him away anyway.
no subject
"I'd rather we both be comfortable opposed to you frozen to the floor."
no subject
Maybe there's no not-awkward way to do this. He steps into the bath with her, curling up by her side, still ridiculously self-conscious. Well, at least he's small. They aren't too cramped. It's actually pretty cozy, but then again he's not the one who has to deal with bones here.
How about a joke to break the awkwardness, tho?
"Hey, Tori. Have you ever tried to sleep on a battery?"
no subject
Her lips quickly quirk into a smile at that, jokes are not something she'll turn down. "I have not. What happens if you sleep on a battery?"
no subject
And idly he wonders when was the last time he'd been this close to another person. It had been ages since he'd shared a bed with Papyrus... he honestly can't remember. Maybe it had never happened.
no subject
"What did one toilet say to the other toilet?" She jerks her thumb in the direction the toilet in the room with them.
no subject
"Hmm." Nope, he never heard of this one, but why not take a shot at it? "I dunno... don't be so down in the dumps?"
no subject
"The toilet said, You look flushed!"
no subject
This practically opens up a world of possibilities.
Primarily fart joke related possibilities. Immature, him??
no subject
It might be a challenge, or a simple question. Only Toriel's slight smirk offers any clue.

Yeah, that's a whoopee cushion in his hand. CLASSIC. He doesn't even bother to hide a full-body laugh as the fart sound echoes in the bathroom.
"Whoops, didn't mean to make you the butt of the joke!" ... Yeah he did though.
no subject
"You-" She just starts laughing again.
no subject
Her laughter is hilarious, too. He laughs even harder, practically wheezing. "What'd I tell ya?" Immature jokes, guaranteed.
no subject
"Aah, I had forgotten about those. Goodness." Its nice to have friends again. Even if they're friends who will whoopee cushion you.
no subject
Farts, all day every day. It's True Comedy and that's a fact.
no subject
"I look forward to the reminders. I can only guess they'll be sudden and swift." Toriel would be disappointed if Sans didn't whoopie cushion her again at some point.
