What kind of monsters are we talking about here? Big, small? Furry, scaly? All I've seen here so far is white, white, and... oh, look, more white.

I'm not sure. I think they're all different. The ones we've seen have been but... So far, no one has been able to fight back. A lot of people have died.

Sounds like fun. Dangerous monsters, treacherous landscape, no supplies... you have everything. What about tea parties, do you have tea parties?

No, I don't think so. Did you find a backpack? When I woke up here, there was one with water and rations. They're awful, but...

I'd rather it have a knife in it. Or a sharp piece of glass, I'm not picky. [ And besides, he thinks, shooting a pointed look at Dane, someone has already eaten some of the rations. ] They ought to at least reimburse me for the daggers they took.

They take everyone's weapons, but it isn't very hard to find something to use in the houses or the rubble.

[She's totally staring at Dane, now. He's cute, in a mildly intimidating way.]

[ Dane stares back, while Hawke remains... pretty much unaware of the staring contest between them. ]

A country called Ferelden, originally. We've got lots of dogs. And dirt. But there isn't much reason to go back, unless I tire of gangs and bandits prowling the streets at night. My home's Kirkwall, now.

I've never heard of those places, but... So far, we haven't figured out a way home. You should try to stick with a group, if you can. It's safer that way.

[ He looks over just in time to stop Dane from slobbering even more. Make a good first impression, god. ]

He looks like he'll eat you alive — and, well, he could, but he won't if you give him a belly rub.

He is pretty cute. Is he a hunting dog? Or a guard dog?

He's a... [ Dane picks up his paw and sort of claws at the screen while Hawke pauses. ] Well. He's multi-purpose.

Guard-dog, when he's at home. Guard-dog when he helps with training the guard. [ Haha. Get it?? ] He's mostly a companion who happens to intervene when people try to kill me. Mabari don't much like it when you stab their people.

He's also a great listener.

[Oh no. Dane is quickly heading straight for the "cute" category and very much leaving the "kind of dangerous-looking" one. She can't help but laugh at him, and maybe at Hawke's stupid pun. Maybe.]

Really? Well, I guess it's lucky he came with you, then. Does he give good advice, too?

[Dumb jokes, let's go. She's in desperate need of a silly conversation.]

Oh, yes, he's very wise. Like he always says, 'arf ruff woof woof.' Words to live by.

[ He has to nudge Dane away from the screen now, because he's getting a little too interested. Sniffing it just means Hawke can't see, not with that puppy head in the way. ]

And he's very good at keeping secrets. He could ruin my reputation if he wasn't.

[But the puppy head is adorable, and Tifa's a little disappointed when Hawke pushes him away. She's snickering again regardless.]

Is he? What a good boy! And smart, too.

[Is it very important for Dane to know this, obviously!]

[ There is no sense of sarcasm or irony. Dane is just a good boy. It would look sweeter if he weren't covered in blood while petting his dog, though. ]

I am concerned I'll end up with a Mabari-sicle, though. It doesn't snow much in Kirkwall.

[That is a valid concern, and Tifa hums thoughtfully. It does get ridiculously cold. What if his paws get frostbite?]

Well, some houses have old clothes or sheets. Maybe you can try wrapping something around him. We have a few washcloths that might work for his paws if you tie something around them, but I'm not sure how far away you are.

Like a cape? [ A pause. ] Like a cape.

[ He's suddenly very into the idea of having a cape-wearing Mabari. Washcloths around his paws aren't quite as cool-looking, but they'll make it work. ]

If I know my luck, we're far. But I'll start scavenging like a raccoon and see where that takes us.

I guess you could think of it as a cape. [She smiles a little, shrugging.] Do you think he'll wear it?

I'm not sure, I've never tried to dress him before. He'd look very sharp, though. A cape is certainly dressed to impress.

[ all the other dogs would wanna be him... be with him... if only there were more dogs around :| ]

Maybe the way to scare off those monsters is a nice, flowy cape. You can thank me later.

Capes are pretty intimidating. Maybe a red one with a collar? He'd look mysterious.

Well, let me know if you come across a cape. I'm sure Dane would appreciate it. He'd probably give you a kiss for your efforts, but as a warning, he's a bit sloppy. Far too much tongue.
