He died taking on a monster. Got in the way and saved someone's life.

we don't have a surplus of anybody and in case you haven't noticed the people who can take care of themselves are a lot more useful than I am

but yeah, in the two seconds he had to react I guess the "mechanical aficionado" should've come up with a plan to what - beat the monster? Haul a 200 pound guy out of there?

Hiro didn't, and he was a genius.

Maybe it was better than watching someone else die here after his brother and Cloud. Or maybe he was just brave and thought he'd come back.

Trying to convince people who are grieving to agree with you about the way Hiro died isn't right. How isn't that selfish? You aren't helping anyone.
