[He taps the button the other guy said looked like a camera, even though it doesn't look like any camera he's ever seen. The screen fills with a sun browned, weathered face.]

Can ya see me? If you touch that box thing with the circle in it, I should be able ta see you, too.

( he's not expecting a sudden face, and nearly drops his tablet. he does have to shift it around, picking it up instead of leaving it flat on a surface. honestly, picking at the little buttons with one hand was awkward. this is probably more practical for him.

it takes a few minutes more to find the button he means, though, and the pirate can be relieved that his foolish talking at the screen that can't respond is missed by everyone but the room he's in. )

I can see you. ( said cautiously, because now he can see himself as well in the corner. this is all bloody odd. not like any magic mirror he's seen. ) What is this ghastly thing?

It's called a tablet. Don't ask me why. I don't know. There ain't nothin' like it where I come from. Closest thing's a phone.

[He's not exactly an altruist, but he can relate to the confusion and dislike of this strange, new thing. It's something to latch onto for a little while beyond feeling confused and overwhelmed. He'll take it.]

Callin' a phone close ta this thing is about like callin' a house cat close ta a tiger, though. Ain't much of a real comparison.

( he barely even knows what a phone is, if he's honest. he's only seen them, never used them, and all he knows is that they're for communication. whatever it's called, it's odd, but he does not intend to make his knowledge with magic especially aware.

Who are you? Are you from Storybrooke? ( he doesn't seem familiar in the slightest. )

Naw. I ain't never heard a' Storybrooke. I travel so much I can't much say I'm from anywhere no more. I was born in Auburn. Name's George. You?

[He can't tell too much about the man from what he can see of him in the tablet other than he probably feels about the same way he does right now, perplexed and frustrated with the situation.]

( he doesn't know where that is. he only knows of a few locations in the land without magic, and Auburn isn't one of them. )

Killian Jones. ( which doesn't match his username, but it is technically his name. ) Did you just... wake up here?

Yep. That's xactly what happened. Woke up with that thing, the tablet thing, goin' off an' tellin' me ta register. Took me a while to figure out what it meant and how ta do it.

It shut it up. That was all I was after. Then other people started talkin', like we are now.

[He shrugs a little helplessly.]

Short a' findin' other people face to face, I ain't sure what else ta try to do.

Have you been outside? Can you guess what direction you're in?

( he hasn't, but he's going to go soon. Hook can generally navigate himself by the rising of the sun, as long as this place's sun functions in a way he's used to. )

[He pans the tablet around far too fast, having no idea what that would look like to someone on the other end. It's a dizzying view of white, sky, and rubble, then he swings it back around to his own face.]

Near as I can tell I'm headin' north. I usually got a good sense of direction. Ya gotta when you move around as much as I do.

Christ, it looks even worse than Maine out there.

( Hook isn't looking forward to that. he hates the cold and he's not really dressed for it. Maine is the worst cold he's ever had to deal with before and that was already pretty terrible.

he can't see a lot on the little screen but he can't see much but snow and white. the sun might give a bit of direction as long as it rises and sets normally in this place. )

Have to know it for sailing as well. We're clearly not the only ones out here, it might be wise to consolidate forces. ( all head for the same place... if that's possible. impossible to know how massive the place was. )
