Of course any of the options that would explain why they are gone are by no means pleasant to think about.

[Because regardless of the how, it would be unpleasant to make an entire town of people disappear.]

It would be, but there was no power in it, save for a single machine that dispenses SD cards that are compatible with the tablets we woke up with. And that is a good plan. I traveled a little west of here as well as a little north. There's a playground to the west and the north, but traveled no further than that. I plan to go south next.
