[ It's not Fenris' fault. At the very least, Hawke would protest it to his last breath. If anything, he's the cause for Hawke's more genuine smiles. His own thoughts are what brought his mood down. But, he can't have that. He's got to keep pressing forward. Something is wrong with Fenris and it pains him he can't be there now, a comfort in person. No, he's just stuck here. Helpless and useless.

It's a feeling Hawke doesn't like having. ]

Shame we don't have any elfroot. [ It's a meek jest at best. ] Just that?

[ He doesn't like lying to Hawke. He isn't much of a liar in the first place, not unless he has to or he's speaking to someone who hasn't earned his respect. Hawke has.

His lips twitch, almost a smile at the joke. ]

I don't know how to answer that. [ Hawke knows him too well. He's going to get suspicious soon, and after the disaster with Corypheus, Fenris thinks there's been enough "protecting" each other by misdirection. ] Garrett...

[ He exhales heavily. ]

There's something wrong with my markings. It's possible my illness has nothing to do with the food.

[ Even though it's been a while since he's finally coerced Fenris into calling him by his name and he's had time to get used to it, there's still a part of him that feels like it's trouble on the horizon.

Which, apparently was the right thought to have, as what Fenris tells him next makes his heart skip a beat and his stomach twist. As it happens, that isn't all that helpful with the nausea he's feeling. Hawke's brows knit together for an instant—he's never been all that great at hiding his emotions as soon as they hit him.

Now more than ever he wants to be with Fenris. A hand cards through his hair as he exhales. ]

What do you mean? Fenris, what's wrong?

[scowls]

[ His first instinct had been right, he decides, as he watches Hawke’s expression change. He’s worrying now. Fenris has become a burden during a time in which they cannot afford more. He shouldn’t have said anything. ]

Perhaps it is better that I show you.

[ Frowning, voice weary, he picks up the device and walks over to the wall. He turns it slightly, canting it so that, he hopes, Hawke can see more of him and the section of wall by his shoulder. At least, he hopes that he’s doing it right. He can only assume that the front of it is like a window and whatever it faces, it reveals to the one on the other side.

The lyrium flares to life, the light as bright and clear as it’s always been. But when he presses his hand to the wall, it stops as an ordinary hand would. ]

They glow but they do nothing else. [ He looks at Hawke, brow knitted in uncertainty. ] I feel nothing from them.
