Oh. Ummm...let's see. Science is basically learning everything you can about the world by studying it for a long time. And then using what you've learned to make things.

Oh, uh, the magic I've seen was back on my world, and it was mostly elemental--like Fire, Ice, Wind--that sort of thing. [ She doesn't tell him about the Summon Spirits. That's better left to a face-to-face conversation. ]
