( he sounds too bloody young to be out in the snow on his own. Hook is not good with his tablet yet, even though he's trying to learn... but he can't not answer a voice like that. )

Do you know where you are, navigationally? North, south, east, west?

( Hook isn't sure where he's going to go next, but toward people seems a good idea. )

[Al is exceptionally grateful to hear this voice, mostly because it distracts him from the strange hallucination of feeling tired. He hasn't quite learned that things are different here, yet.]

I'm not sure. I know that I've been travelling west because of the position of the sun, but I don't know how far in any compass direction I started.

All I can say is I'm fairly far north. I hit a wall of sorts before I had to turn around. I could head west in the morning, but finding each other in this place might be quite a task.

( he is assuming, but the voice sounds young. )

It's Al, Alphonse Elric.

[He doesn't take offence, he's still technically a kid at 15, even if he sounds much younger.]

Maybe we won't find each other right away, but it's a good start. If we move as far west and as far north as we can, eventually we'll find each other... and if we all do that, then we'll be able to form a group. Make sure you pass the message along to anyone else you speak to, as far north and as far west!

( and hey, that is a plan. a decent enough one, though people traveling on their own might not be entirely wise. )

That'd be a good place to start. Have you spoken to many yet? Are you on your own?

Yeah, but so is everyone else I've spoken to, nobody seems to be anywhere near anyone else.

[Which is worrying in itself, separated people in a crisis are easier to pick off one at a time. It makes the need to band together, to find the others, of imperative urgency.]

If you find another house as you travel, or even just any kind of landmark, try to leave a note there for others to find. Write it down, or carve it where it can be seen. Maybe leave your name, and the direction you came from, and the one you're travelling to. That way, maybe we can find at least a few people as we go.

I can do that. ( he has a normal tendency to leave a mark where he's going. he didn't today but he was planning on starting. his hook is dulled but it can still leave a scar. )

Don't suppose the residents will mind. Haven't met one yet. ( where could they all of gone? such a large settlement, so utterly ruined. it reminds him of the land left desolate after Regina's curse, honestly. )

I'll see what kind of mark I can think up. I'll leave them when I set out tomorrow and head west.

[He sounds so fired up with enthusiasm over their plan. It might be a flawed one, as they have no idea how big this place is and so might be travelling west forever without ever running into anyone else, but it's a plan nonetheless.]

( no, it's not a perfect plan, but they've got to start somewhere. they'll be able to refine it as they go. people traveling in the cold on their own is dangerous but there's little choice if they are all separated. would figure the second be tries to care about someone other than himself, he's dumped in a situation it would be best to go back to being selfish. )

This place is pretty scary and confusing, but everything gets more bearable when you have friends to bear it with you.

[Al doesn't even consider that Hook might not make friends and allies as easily and quickly as he does himself.]

( the absolute sincerity of that is actually quite astounding. it's likely the first time anyone has ever claimed to be happy to have met him in decades. longer if one discounted the people to have rescinded that opinion after knowing him better. it reminds Hook of another boy he met in a similar place... one he betrayed for his own pride and safety. one that is gone now, thanks to Hook's foolish alliance with the woman that killed him.

when he gets back, he will do what he can to save Henry. to do as right as he could by Baelfire. in the meantime, he will try to do right by those that need it here. Al included.

[Edward Elric. Wise. These two words do not normally go together in a sentence, and a lot of people who heard Hook say that may have fallen over laughing. Luckily, Al isn't one of them, as he thinks the world of his brother for all his faults.]
