There was a house full of broken cages, and a lot bones of small animals. It kind of looked like they had been someone's pets, and then abandoned.

I woke up with homework. [Which he didn't look too much at. Had more important things to find.] How old did they look?

Pretty old, the bones in them were proper skeletons with no sign of any flesh left, so they must have been there long enough for full decomposition.

[Strangely, despite his young voice and optimistic outlook, Al isn't really squeamish.]

[Was, not gonna lie, kind of expecting more discomfort, but no, kid's pretty stoic despite sounding like he's 10 and...echoy with a heart of gold and with a lot of youthful optimism.

[There's no reason to deny it. While he and Ed may keep some things private, they make no secret about facing adversity.]

It's still not nice to see dead animals, but they're not suffering any more and it's important to examine them for clues.
