What, no DVDs? Not even a video tape? And BLANK to boot?? Talk about shoddy service. Perhaps we've been taken to some alternate culture where tablets are free and we watch videos on SD cards.

Sort of takes the fun out of setting up a collection, if you ask me. Perhaps it was used to catalogue things? Like some sort of high-tech home video collection.

Not that I could find. It was more than strange how the machine was the only thing that had power. Still, it is at least something of note among otherwise unimpressive surroundings.

That is an excellent theory, and perhaps they were used for such a thing. And if so, it would at least be something that if we could find more of what people left, it could perhaps give us a better understanding of what happened here. And, more to the point, answering the question of why we are here.

Perhaps it's to do with whatever keeps these tablets powered? A battery of some sort?

That was so well put I could've said it myself and never even realised the difference! If we're right, the key to these mysteries should lie in the records of the past-- whether it be some sort of catastrophic snowstorm or a rebel overthrow, in an age and place where people had this sort of technology at their fingertips, they've undoubtedly recorded it!

So the question becomes-- any idea where to find more? You think your machine had any recorded cards, or just blanks?

And as a bonus-- if that machine was functioning on some battery power, it's possible there may be some way to utilise that energy for a generator or heat source.

It could, though if this place is as large as I'm beginning to think it may be, there would have to be more of them scattered about in order to provide that much power to all of our tablets. Or else the machine would have had to be several times larger than it actually is.

[So says logic, anyway. And she has yet to determine if this place adheres to logic and the laws of science as she knows them.]

I believe we can rule out any sort of war happening considering none of the buildings I have seen look blown out, simply abandoned. Though I shall keep my eyes open for any clues as to what happened to the people who so obviously were here at some point before we arrived.

That is the question. I found this one in a convenience store, so perhaps there are others in public areas of a similar accord? City hall, other shops, petrol stations I'd hazard a guess may have similar machines. I would say it only has blanks, though I cannot be certain. All I know is despite my trying, I could only take one card from it.

My thoughts exactly. I have plans to travel back at a later date and inspect just such a thing. I will see if I can find a way to manipulate the power source it has. Or if it is tapped into another power source, even.

Do you think it was a mass exile then? Something that drove them out? Or a biological agent? Though I would hope with the latter it'd have died off enough so that we won't get ill ourselves...

I'll keep my eye out as well-- any sort of machinery that's still around SHOULD run on the same sort of power if we're correct. And if they WERE used as records, maybe it's possible to find these hidden little treasures as easily as books or pen and paper.

It is possible. Though if they are a power source, then why is the electricity not working across the city still? That machine was running fine, but the rest of the convenience store had no power.

If what I hear is correct about there being massive walls of snow bordering this place, I do not see how a mass exile could have occurred, unless the snow came afterwards. I would like to say it was not a biological agent, for if they simply died, where are their bodies?
