Chrissake, that's huge. I ain't never even heard a' snow that high or deep. I mean, maybe somewhere up in the Arctic. Ain't no way we're there. Ain't cold enough. We'd all be dead.

[It's one of the few things he recalls vividly from his short schooling, all those expeditions and lost ships.]

I'm surprised I can't see it from here. I must be a far piece from you.

It's likely you know more about it than I. I've only heard brief mentions of places much farther north than I've been.

[He gets up and heads to the door, intending to show George the wall. He can be heard asking the tablet's assistant how to use the cameras (he knows to call them "cameras"), and then there's the sound of a door opening. And then there's a video feed, looking out at the snow - there's a looming fifty-foot wall of it, as promised. He's not so close to it as to be at its foot, but he's definitely close enough to see it.]

Perhaps a "snow mountain" would be a more appropriate description.

[He sounds as incredulous as he feels staring at that huge wall of white on screen. It doesn't seem real, like some distant snowcap brought right down to the flatlands and left there.]

Yeah. I can't see nothin' like that anywhere around here. You gotta be far from me. I ain't sure I wanna find that. Hard to wrap my head around it.

[He returns to just a voice feed.]

It is baffling, isn't it? How large must this place be for us to be so far apart?

[It's a little scary, admittedly. There's the sound of him crossing the room, footsteps on the floor, and a piece of furniture under a body's weight. He lets out a sigh, shaky and tired.]

I'm not sure what to make of any of this. I've never been anywhere like this at all...the worst is, I wasn't alone. How could they take me here without my friends noticing? Or without waking me?

[None of this makes any sense and it's starting to make his head spin. He's talking now mostly just to talk, because the silence is even creepier than the implications of his kidnapping.]

[He has to wonder, himself. It must be pretty big for him not to see anything that high. It's also strange catching all of those atmospheric sounds. A telephone was never so good at picking up things like that.]

I can't answer that last part, but how do you know your friends didn't notice? For all we know, people's lookin' for us. Or maybe they put up a fight. I don't remember much a' nothin', 'cept I was drinkin'. I could'a easy got hold of some bad hooch.

[There's no easy way to say the person in question can teleport. And failing that, scale any surface because he doesn't need to obey the laws of gravity. How do you explain your best friend being an archangel?

You don't, that's how. People will think you're crazy, he'd known that all along. He's only really ever said anything about the more unusual aspects of his life to people who seemed similarly strange - that "HGWELLS" person who had responded to him, for example, clearly displaced in time, herself, and used to it.]

It's hard to explain, but he can get anywhere he needs to be.

[Nothing would've stood between him and Lennie. He imagines Lennie'd knock down that damn big snow bank to get to him if he knew he was on the other side. He feels an unwelcome tightness in his throat.]

Guess none of that matters either way. We're here. They're wherever they are, an' we gotta all deal with this.

[That would be why he didn't go into specifics. How would "my friend can instantly be wherever he wants, at whatever point in time he wants" sound?

He sighs, missing his companions more keenly now that he's reminded himself he should never feasibly be separated from one of them by force. That it wasn't normally possible.

He shouldn't be alone like this...

It sounds like it would benefit both of them to change the subject.]

...So we do. I've searched some, today, myself, but found little of use outside this house I woke in. I wasn't dressed for this weather in the slightest.
