That's correct. As for who did it, I don't know. Anyone who did is dead now.

And the cult? The Norfinbury Entity? All of that, just the town's defenses? What exactly were you defending in this town?

The cult was a result of nanomachine poisoning reacting to the desperation of certain people to survive. Some of you have gotten the same sorts of results. The entity is your conceptualization of the town's systems--trying to make sense of something that doesn't make sense. There's military technology here. You probably knew that by now.

All just smoke and mirror in our minds. Yes, I suppose it makes sense. And I suppose I did know.

You do know that if the nanomachines in my body stop working, I'll effectively revive, immune to radiation and possessed of a plethora of useful supernatural abilities?

It would depend on if you died before your particular unique qualities came back.

Ah, but no, that's the beauty of it. It's precisely when I die that my unique qualities, as you put it, come back. That's how vampirism works.

It's not enhancement, blast it, it's magic. You don't know how your nanomachines deal with magic, do you? Why am I even asking. Smoke and bloody mirrors. It's all been in our minds. But we were real. So I suppose at least we're back where we started.

Do you know anything about the world outside this town?

If you mean what it's like right now, then no, except I imagine not in good shape.

But there is a world. Even if most of it is a wasteland, there is more than this town. Other places. Other chances. Maybe other people.

If there were other people, then it seems like it would be easier to bring THEM here instead of getting at all the places you're all from.

Frankly, anything seems easier than bringing us here. How could you have made all this progress, but no progress at all in making this town a little less of a hellscape? How bloody difficult can it be to do some, oh, I don't know, weather engineering?

The administrator's priorities are mostly focused on maintaining life. I don't think anyone's survived long enough for her to start working on something like that instead of just making better forms of surgery.

Is she unable to understand that she would not need better forms of surgery if people didn't keep getting hideously injured and ill? Caine's blood, you say she's human, why can't be talk to her?
