I'm sorry, to both of you. I wanted to reach out, but I felt I could only make things worse in the process, because of situations that felt more similar than they likely are.

It was nothing but half-founded fear and I should not have listened to that fear.

[ For a second, there's relief.

It's quickly replaced by the beginnings of cold fury crystallising at the edges of her brain. She can feel it in there, glass-like and ready to fracture. ]

And why wouldn't they tell her Rhys died, when everyone but Rhys himself seemed to be in favour of telling her about what really happened, whether she'd blame herself or not? ]

[A lengthy pause follows as he considers how the hell he's going to explain this exactly.]

Rhys was deteriorating and suffering. He asked for mercy. John tried to stop me. We fought. I snapped.

[ Because yeah, no, she's not going to get mad about a mercy-killing. She'd be the ultimate hypocrite. And she's seen Beckett snap before, hasn't she, and she can easily imagine (excuses for) why that would be an acceptable reaction.

Not so much letting her wait this long. Two nights? ]

[Rhys is quietly lurking all this, because he sure as hell would like to know what happened... He's got a *lot* of missing pieces that need filling in.]

Rhys ASKED! Which means if he doesn't come back he was willing to take that chance
Which also means that he was in a lot of pain because otherwise he'd have stuck around

You don't KNOW what I've BEEN through, you don't know my LIFE! And clearly John didn't want this happening either and I kinda sorta trust his judgement even if I don't agree with him on everything but--

--the fact is Beckett killed two dudes! Even if Rhys asked for it, he killed John when he didn't ask for it!

I'm not CLAIMING to know your life, jackhole! If you *have* been in a situation that dire, then you should know how it'd feel to have to ask someone to end things for you!!

I'm NOT saying that excuses Beckett attacking John at all, I'm saying it *explains* it
It doesn't make someone evil if they make bad decisions at moments of extreme emotional stress!!
