[That's... just clever enough to make him grin. It's a weak grin, but it's there.]

The barrier.

[He reaches out with his fingers, like he's trying to touch something that isn't there.]

It shimmered. It was a bit like lightning; blue lightning. But it was solid to the touch. Have you ever heard of such a thing?

[That grin means approval, right? He's totally interpreting it as approval, if only because doing so makes things seem profoundly less shitty. He'd muster a tiny grin back too, but then Alfie's talking about who even fucking knows and Karkat quickly shifts gears.]

What, like a force field? Yeah, it's not too...

[He trails off then, his brow furrowing. There's, what, not even a hundred years worth of difference between Alfie's time and Davesprite's, right? So what the fuck. Humans are so weird.]

It's a science fiction thing, like a hyper gravity chamber. You've really never heard of one?

[He waves a hand vaguely through where he thinks the barrier is supposed to be, then shrugs.]

Well, that Miller guy's an asshole anyway. I shouldn't be surprised.

[Alfie tests the barrier - or lack thereof - with a foot. Unsurprisingly, it goes through the empty space with no issues.]
