Nope, a hundred percent real. I've got a theory about it, if you're interested?
[So far dragging people through the door hasn't worked, but maybe if he sits down and talks through the possibilities with someone, Tadashi can finally spot which angle to come at the problem from. With any luck, they can be out of here before anything else happens.]

Most of this science stuff tends to go over my head so I have no idea if I'll actually follow it, but I'm game if you are.
]He scoots over as much as he can manage with his arm, indicating that he's not going to go for Tadashi's throat or anything. Just the company is good, and if he can add anything to Tadashi's thoughts? It's worth a thought.]
no subject
Don't worry about it. Just talking it out helps sometimes. [He shakes his head, smiling slightly.] Besides, a lot of this stuff is over my head, too.
[A.I.s are one thing, but what he's read about here is on another level. Tadashi isn't even sure how far away they are from nanobots. It would almost be exciting to see the future of tech if he could get his hands on it in any meaningful way.
Tadashi takes a breath.]
Okay, my first theory is that the barriers on the door are coded to certain people genetically. Or to the nanobots in their blood. Do you know if anyone has tried to throw anything through the barrier yet?
no subject
[He settles in to listen, nodding thoughtfully. He's a little relieved- this is something he can actually follow.
Not that he's dumb, it's just that he's not a science guy. But he can follow this.]
The nanotech in our blood do a lot of crazy stuff. So they're apparently pretty far along tech-wise. Keying them to a force field? That doesn't seem too far out of reach, considering everything else that's happened here.
[He considers, and shrugs, before reaching over carefully to pick up his empty milk cup from the half-finished tray beside his bed. He pitches it lightly at the cell wall.
To Tadashi, it simply hits the floor and rolls. Rhys, however, apparently sees something different.]
Bounces right off. So, that's kind of a no.
no subject
Well, that's one aspect nailed down if--
His attention immediately switches back to Rhys as the other man speaks.]
Bounces right off of what...?
[A quick glance confirms the location of the cup. Tadashi winces before he even tries, but curiosity drives him back to his feet. He shuffles stiffly the few feet to the cup. Once he has it in hand again, he tosses it lightly back to Rhys, one eyebrow arched in question.]
no subject
The cell wall. The force field. The blue glowy shit that's keeping me in here?
[He looks at the other man uncertainly.]
no subject
That done, he backs out of the cell again and readies himself.]
Blue and glowy? Got it. Okay, this time, try to toss it like you would if you wanted me to catch it. Like all of that [gesturing at the blue and glowy thing he still can't see] isn't there.
no subject
Rhys frowns slightly, but follows the younger man's instructions, tossing the cup fairly well toward him.]
See? Bounces right off.
no subject
What do you see now?
no subject
[His brow is furrowed with confusion, but he's following things pretty well...except for insisting the barrier is there and that it stops the cup.]
...I don't know, though. I mean. Hell. I'm tired and wasn't that long ago I was screaming at a dead woman? So maybe take it with a grain of salt, but I know I can't get out, and I definitely see the barrier. Wouldn't be in here if I couldn't.
[He'd be out and helping other people. Or just huddled for comfort.]
no subject
[Tadashi waits to make sure Rhys is on board, then tosses the cup through where the barrier supposedly exists. It passes through just fine, landing and rolling.]
We both see that nothing stops it, right? If the barrier is coded to individuals, it’s not going to affect inanimate objects.
no subject
No, it just bounced off the barrier again.
...I don't know how that works, but that's what I'm seeing.
no subject
[Doing something over and over again and expecting different results is sort of what science is all about sometimes, though.]
Right, so do you see it inside with you, or outside with me?
no subject
[Tadashi is starting to make the puzzle harder, and Rhys's frown deepens. The more of this he tries to figure out, the worse his headache gets.]
It's out there with you.
[In spite of his frustration, he's still being agreeable, even friendly toward Tadashi. It's the damn barrier that's getting to him.]
no subject
And now it's back in there with you. No barrier from what I can see. I'm starting to wonder if my first theory was completely off the mark. I think it's less some sort of genetically coded force generator and more to do with individual perspective.
cw: mention of Noisy Black
[Rhys had been a very tired, bitter sixty-year-old. It had sucked.]
The nanites in our blood do all kinds of weird stuff...I don't really know much about the tech but I know they can influence us in some pretty extreme ways. Keep us awake and alive through massive amounts of trauma, for example.
no subject
[That being said...]
Why only some of us, if that's what's going on? The other things you mentioned... did only some people experience it or was it the same for everyone?
