[ Jim bites back a 'not as bad as you,' because that would probably only piss Beckett off and he really needs the help right now. ]

Think... I got off pretty easy. Leg's broken.

[ The memory of it being bent completely backwards rises, unbidden, and he has to choke back nausea too. ]

[Beckett makes a shaky noncommittal sound.] Easy's relative.

[Despite the unbearable pain, he considers himself to have gotten off much easier this time than before. He can see. He can sort of move. He's counting every single blessing.]

You - brace your hand, if you can, I'm not - not strong. [But he can work the ring back and forth, still as gently as he's able, to get it off. Just in time, he thinks, feeling Jim's hand under his own.] Where do I - you have a pocket?

[ And Jim does, holding his hand surprisingly steady even when his resolution not to cry in front of anyone shatters. The little ring formed of a key is free, though, and it's not going to cost him the hand. ]
