[Enoch doesn't have the gift of tongues the way an angel might. He was blessed with the knowledge of several languages, but only the ones he needed. Morse code and binary code would not exist in his world for thousands of years.

He recognizes it's not random and it's not musical, but otherwise has no idea what's going on. It's unusual enough that he emerges from his hiding place to move closer to the sound.]

What's...what's that tapping noise?

*Enoch...Beckett's friend was here? Were all of Beckett's friends here? Okay he only knows like three of Beckett's friends but assumes that he can't have many cause having a lot of friends is just crazy talk.

He pauses in his tapping long enough to move closer to Enoch's voice.*

Hello?

[Enoch carefully moves up against his barrier, hesitant as if he could be struck at any moment. What he's afraid of, of course, is striking others - emotionally, of course. If Angel could see him, Enoch would; their cells are next to one another, after all. He still doesn't know what the tapping entails.]

Are you all right?

*He shakes his head then taps out a reply.*

No one is all right.

*He'll figure out Enoch doesn't understand soon...maybe.*

[Or very shortly, because there isn't much else he could be doing, but...]

Is that some sort of code? Can you not speak?

[Enoch might not realize immediately that this is Brian, on the other hand...]

*He nods and taps once. Hopefully Enoch will understand that as an affirmative.*

Once for yes, and twice for no?

[He knows Brian can speak. He was present when he spoke to Beckett once. But Brian is the only person he knows in this town who prefers not to - and also prefers cryptic things like...codes.]

...Brian?

*He taps once.*

Are you badly injured?

[If he needs to, he can call one of the unmarked to maybe bring something. He knows Will, at least, seems to be keeping a level head.]

*He shakes his head and taps twice. He was sore, sure, but that was nothing compared to what he'd seen in others.*

That's good.

[They do seem to have gotten the lesser end of the physical injuries. That doesn't exactly inspire confidence.]

Do you have some other means of communicating? Questions with only two answers can only work for so long.

*He taps out a message in morse, and then the same message again in binary. Hey, Enoch hung out with Angel, it was worth a try.*

[Those are exactly the codes he failed to understand in the first place.]

I'm sorry, I don't know what you're trying to say.

[Unwittingly proving his point there.]

*He sighs and taps once.*

If I had something to write with I could make something basic. But if I had something to write with we could pass notes with the help of someone else.

[A pause. Does he need to write it? His own language had very different rules between written and spoken forms (one of the many reasons contributing to widespread illiteracy, though the sheer lack of everyday need for reading made up for it after Babel made things both more and less complicated), but English is much simpler in that regard.]

Ah...there are twenty six letters. Since I can see you, you could use as many fingers as the letter you wish to use to tap on the floor, with one or two open palms preceding it to denote past ten or twenty respectively.

*He considers for a few moments than uses the given code to tap out a message.*

[He actually smiles for the first time in what feels like ages.]

I can understand. What were you trying to say before?

How many people. How may are new.

How many? I'm not sure. I've seen five new people. I've heard at least two more. I'm not sure we managed a proper count before...whatever it was happened.

[Hiding in his bathroom isn't going to help that matter very much but if his presence can hurt others...]

I wonder if there will be more tomorrow.

*That would probably be bad.*

I certainly hope not. The people here have gone through enough as it is, without having to worry for anyone left behind being brought down here, as well.

...I assume we are somewhere below the town again. It's where they always seem to take us, when we know where we are.

[Aside from the tower, that was the odd place out. But he's not mentioning that thought aloud or dwelling on it. He's had enough reminders of that already, and he needs to refrain from breaking while they're stuck here.]

*He nods. More people would be bad.*

There is a lot under nor fin bury.

I wonder if that's where the town hall will lead. It seems to be where everything that maintains the town might be found.

[A nice place to live on the surface, powered out of sight from beneath the earth itself. It's kind of like the power plant on a larger scale.]

It must. There must be a connection between there and where admin is.

It's strange how we've learned so much but many of our most pressing questions aren't any closer to being answered.

[A pause.]

...What do you plan to do when we find it? What do you hope for?
