Hey, absolutely. We have a reputation to uphold, you know?

Merci, I'll be here all night. Or longer, if the tourist paper is any indication.

Bouchard. Enchanté.

living on borrowed time
good luck not being here 300 days
it's a real bitch

So do people try to break out?

You have been here this long then? How do you deal with the crazy people?

[This has been his most promising conversation so far, he's giving you the benefit of the doubt, House.]
rubikscomplex: (childish | lollipop)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2018-02-13 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
you become one of them
while trying to break out
mostly you "die" a lot
or you black out and wake up in a morgue locker
like save points in a video game
i'm on my tenth life
so it seems like we might have unlimited 1-UPs
jmencalisse: (13)

[personal profile] jmencalisse 2018-02-14 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Charming.
Do we at least get to eat magic flowers and throw fireballs at other people because if not I feel so cheated.
You must be trying to break out a lot. What's the town average?
rubikscomplex: (childish | colors)

cw: mentions of self-harm, torture, and body horror

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2018-02-14 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
sometimes you carve cult symbols into your flesh
then your eyes turn into cult symbols
and you start murdering anyone with glowing eyes
alternatively
you sometimes get the ability to torture someone with unnecessary surgery absent anesthesia
without somehow sending their bodies into complete shock or post-op sepsis
when you stick them in a grungy jail cell
that's only if you're one of the really special ones
also sometimes people turn into monsters
that was pretty cool

[It was horrifying.]

or they look like they do
cam footage says they're just running around like naked lunatics

most people stay dead after 1 or 2
clearly they don't want it enough

[There is a pause before the next text comes in because a) that is a lot (in more than one sense of the word) and b) from which fucked up part of his subconsciousness is this bullshit even coming from and c) even if he doesn't believe it's real it's still really freaking depressing. Maybe he should consider that desk job once he's back.]

I'm not even going to pretend that isn't the most royally fucked up thing I have heard in a very long time. Congratulations, this round goes to you.

You must want it a lot then.

[personal profile] jmencalisse 2018-02-28 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, he can get behind that.]

So what's your strategy?
rubikscomplex: (srs | hand over mouth)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2018-02-28 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"spaghetti principle"
throw everything at the wall
and see what sticks
i've been running experiments
solving any of the minor puzzles i come across
sometimes they throw the dog a bone if you're a good enough boy
sd cards with programs
sometimes files with videos of things that happened before we were here
sometimes supplies
jmencalisse: (03)

[personal profile] jmencalisse 2018-02-28 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really shit with puzzles. Not half bad with throwing shit at the wall though. What kind of experiments?

the kind that gets you killed multiple times
there's a system in the morgues that controls the nanomachines inside us
i've been trying to understand it
access the controls
still working on the surviving long enough to do that side of things
also checking for evidence to prove we're human
or at least mostly human
when we can't trust our perceptions
jmencalisse: (09)

[personal profile] jmencalisse 2018-03-01 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
What kills you? The machine? Getting to the controls?

Mostly human? So this might actually just be a crazy dream?
rubikscomplex: (srs | hand over mouth)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2018-03-01 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
acute mn poisoning
the nanomachines in our blood produce waste when they're cleaning the system
which they're constantly cleaning
on account of the radiation in the atmosphere that could kill you in a day, maximum
given the rapid onset of symptoms we've experienced when they've started shutting down in the past
there are additional machines that are supposed to clear the waste out of our blood and bodies
"scrubbers"
if you have too many nanomachines or if your scrubbers are inefficient
because the nanomachines you have are working overtime
you develop medical nanomachine (mn) poisoning

if you stay in the morgue overnight
at midnight
all the lights come up, the morgue locker drawers open
and a panel on the side of the room opens for some sort of machine to come out
it resembles an anomaly and has the same effects of one
the presence of the machine or an anomaly in close proximity
causes a massive spike in medical nanomachine activity
it overwhelms the system
you start bleeding out of every orifice and black out
we have a video showing that it also tends to pull you in
and fully consume your body once you're unconscious

so, yeah
batshit insane dream is still on the table
augmented reality is another possibility and my personal favorite theory

[The next text takes a while to arrive because David is actually reading this a couple of times and thinking. He doesn't get all that stuff about the radiation and nano... thingies but he is a cop and if he's stuck here, well. Might as well pass the time by trying to figure stuff out.]

Like in the sci-fi movies, our bodies are somewhere in a pod with cables sticking out? Where can I find the video?

Midnight, that's some proper ghost bullshit right there. How does it know when it's midnight? Is there a way to change the clocks? Can you trick it, simulate night during the day?

[Christ, this is stupid. But fine, he'll play.]

So this machine, is it like a robot? Have you tried short-circuiting it? Balance a bucket of water over the panel? [Serious suggestion. He's not a technician but he did spill beer over his computer once and the result wasn't pretty.]

Or a bomb on a body that gets pulled in?

What if you drain yourself of a lot of blood, just enough to be standing, do you have less nanothingies that could work overtime? Can you get closer then?
rubikscomplex: (neutral | stethoscope)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2018-03-01 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[David, you're one of his new favorite people.]

less "matrix" more "star trek"
like some of this is real
some of it is projections
from the nanomachines manipulating our perceptions/senses

[He sends over the video of House being killed by the anomaly and drawn into a gaping hole in its chest.]

it's a machine
so presumably it has a clock somewhere
that's probably located in the server room
which is at the center of town
but the machine in the morgue is an actual independent unit
might be able to short circuit it
we can't see what it looks like under the fake image overlay
but i've hit it with a mallet and it sounds metallic
maybe we can try something corrosive
see if we can damage it that way
i like where your head is at bouchard

no way to put a timer on a bomb
and you're unconscious as soon as it touches you
i'm thinking throwing a bomb into an anomaly outside the morgue might be a worthwhile experiment, though
short fuse
good aim
we can see what happens there

the bloodletting idea is interesting, too
might be worth trying that out with the regular anomalies first
that way you can have a test subject and a control for their reactions
without actually needing to both die
acute mn poisoning can affect you through doors/windows
the anomalies like to scrabble at those if they chase you into a building

[personal profile] jmencalisse 2018-03-01 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[Okay, that video with the distortion and wailing voices is some next level bullshit. What the actual fuck. David physically leans back from the screen.

... Then he watches again, trying to make out something through the static.

Seriously, what is this, reverse Alien?]

Okay but what the fuck you can't say Matrix and then send me the fucking Ring.

[Seriously, House.]

Could use the blood, if you drain some anyway. Is blood corrosive, I have no fucking clue. But if nothing else we get a Carrie moment in there.

Don't know much about bombs, unfortunately. My partner's the expert. Fucking asshole, taking a holiday when you actually need him. Do you actually have bomb parts? Someone wants a fucking kidney for a couple of smokes.

So what are you saying, giving it the finger through a window and see if your eyeballs start bleeding? Could combine that with the bomb if it works.
rubikscomplex: (srs | considering)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2018-03-03 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
perception filters
that's not actually what's happening

blood isn't corrosive enough for what we need
not unless you're pumping yourself full of acid
in which case
just gimme the acid

i don't personally have the parts
other people do
homemade explosives aren't that hard to make
it's just finding all the pieces you need for them

and let's not combine the two
once you're safe in the building
you probably don't wanna have even the chance of letting the anomaly in
they're a hell of a lot quicker than some of them look
jmencalisse: (13)

[personal profile] jmencalisse 2018-03-06 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
What about a false trail? They seem to really fucking dig the blood and the rest of our bodies with the whole sucking in bodies and the fucking everything.

Can you lay out breadcrumbs, only with blood? Maybe they're all like ohhhhhh need to eeeeat the nano thiiiiingie, like fucking catnip. Or zombies. Robo zombies.

Could lure them somewhere if it works.
rubikscomplex: (sass | here's the thing)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2018-03-06 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
[You're just fill to the brim with off the wall and interesting ideas, David. House is keeping you.]

no idea if that'd work
i'm game to try it
they're mostly attracted to us
people with their beacon apps on on their tablet get it more
but that's not a bad idea to potentially test
we just need a bunch of blood on hand
jmencalisse: (06)

[personal profile] jmencalisse 2018-03-07 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd try it but I don't have anything sharp on me. And no antiseptic and I'm not too wild on apocalypse sepsis. Or would the nano robos fix that, too?

Could always cut your hand and form little blood snowballs and collect them over time. But then you couldn't do the whole can you get closer when you have less blood thing.
rubikscomplex: (srs | hand over mouth)

[personal profile] rubikscomplex 2018-03-08 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
It'd at least be a way to check if old blood is still viable
presumably the nanites are designed to operate in certain conditions
the ones in our bodies probably aren't equipped to deal with being frozen
which is why you can still freeze to "death" if you get locked out overnight
they're tolerant to a point
you're not likely to get frostbite here
even though all of us should probably be suffering from it
probably don't have to worry about sepsis, though
and if you do
that would be interesting, at least
and something new here
