Thank you. I'd prefer not having to resort to throwing rubble in order to defend myself if a situation arises.

Just that: a Guardian. I'm assigned to someone and I have to protect them.

[ So she's mostly kidding. Flynn took some time to grow on her, but he's not that bad. ]

I'd say walking disaster, but that's only some of the time. He's a quick learner, or we never would have made it past day one.

Oh, believe me, despite his rough start, he always had a certain spark of promise in him.

[ Not that it was always obvious given how clumsy and fumbling he was at first. ]

He just needed a good teacher, and he did the rest himself.

[ There's the slightest note of pride in her voice even as she gives Peter an appraising look. ]

But like you said, you guard much more than just one man. How do you do it?

Well, good for your guardian-ee. At least you don't have to worry about him getting left behind or stuff anymore then?

Seriously though, besides the fact that I'm good at...fighting and shooting at stuff, I couldn't have done it without my friends. It's because of them that we can protect the galaxy, together.

No, that is one thing I don't have to worry about with him.

Well, as good a name as that is, it tells me next to nothing about your abilities. I assume you must have them, of course. [ His next statement confirms that, but still, it's only generalities, not specifics. ] Friends are important, I agree.

Good for the dude, then. But I'm guessing your skillset still vastly outmatches his if you're still stickin' around him.

Oh, man, abilities? The ability to know which frickin' awesome song to play during space battles, yeah. I did have superpowers once though.

It's an outlaw name, it just sounds cool. [His mom gave it to him and it's the best name ever okay?]

Yeah, I wouldn't have even gotten in this business without 'em.

All I can say is that he's got the brains while I have the brawn. I wouldn't make a good Guardian if that weren't the case.

Really, that's all? I imagined that someone named Star-Lord would be in possession of supernatural powers all the time.

[ Suddenly she's not so impressed, Star-Lord. ]

Hey, I'm sure you got plenty of brains too.

[That sounded kind of familiar. Gamora was totally stronger than him, but if he was the brains of the operation they were in trouble. Leader, yeah, he was a good leader. But he was proud of his plans, even if he only managed 12% of a good one.]

Just some of the time. I didn't know that I was half-Celestial until not too long ago.

Not as much as the Librarian.

[ Which was a thing she wasn't supposed to say. But now that it's out, she can't take it back. Call her over-cautious but she'd rather not unknowingly put Flynn in danger. Still, Peter seems like the decent sort. Maybe he won't ask too many questions. ]

Half-Celestial? What, like part alien?

The Librarian!? You don't mean Flynn, do you? Because if you do I feel really bad about saying some of the things I said now--

Yeah. My mom's from earth. My dad was a planet.

[Sometimes he just likes saying it to see people's reactions.]

[ How unsurprising that he knows of Flynn. All of Nicole's secretiveness now seems pointless, if Flynn is telling people about the Library and his role. ]

I do mean Flynn. You've met him, then. [ He's a bit difficult to miss. ]

And I wouldn't. He can take a little friendly ribbing.

[ Nicole's just going to make an incredulous noise. ]

Did you just say your father was a planet? A literal planet?

[ How's that for a reaction, Peter? ]

[He rubs his face, trying to look contrite.]

Oh, there's no shortage of friendly ribbing on my end. He's a really great guy, though, and a good friend.

Yeah, a literal planet. With an atmosphere and plants and everything.

Trust me, he's been called much worse, and some of that came from me. But don't get the wrong idea about us; I might poke fun at him, but I'm fully committed to being his Guardian.

I think he'll survive you calling him a doofus.

[ Nicole can't help but look just the slightest bit confused. Still, it's not the most far-fetched thing ever. ]

I'm attempting to understand how a relationship with a planet would work, but I honestly can't work that one out.

[ How does a planet have children? Perhaps it's best to not ask. ]
