I just don't know if I have much interesting to say...but... I shall try to explain...

If the calendar here is accurate, I'm from over four thousand years in the future. We've colonized space and travel between star systems is quite common. I work shipping cargo.

Humanity left Earth a long time ago. It's an ancestral homeland but it's lost somewhere in the darkness of space.

There are no Earth-born humans anymore.

Well...

When humanity searched for other life in the cosmos the only beings that responded were the creatures called the Gnosis. Unfortunately they are hostile.

[A thoughtful pause.]

You've been here before so you must know about the anomalies, right? They're a lot like the Gnosis.

The Gnosis cannot be harmed unless pulled into the physical dimension somehow. Their true forms lie elsewhere.

They hate humanity but they also seem to be driven by a primal fear. It's like they want something humanity has that they lack.

It seems like the anomalies are similar to them in that way...

The Hilbert Effect.

With it, people are able to create a sort of sensory intersection with the dimension of the Gnosis.

I'm not so sure how we'd replicate it here.

It's unlikely but anything is possible.

[A beat.]

Oh, I mean hacking the system, not refraining from killing each other. I like to believe we are capable of pulling together when we have to.

[...For the most part. There is a small hint of guilt in his voice as he says this.]

[A snorting giggle.]

You know, you might be one of the first people around here to say that.

[Other than Enoch, anyway.]

[A small, sympathetic sound.]

I've learned hope by watching people fight against seemingly impossible odds. I see the same thing here.

[It's still a lesson he's getting used to after being frozen by his own hopelessness for thousands of years.]

...Might I ask, are you a storyteller yourself? You've mentioned stories a couple of times now.

Your works have survived until my era, even, they really are timeless.

[It's not a tangent chaos minds. He listens with honest interest.]

Of course the past has its merits....

Even if a person has regrets, erasing your past means erasing the events that have shaped you.
