[bywolves]

No. Not a single moment of it.

[devoutish]

I'd like it better if we had some sun.

[He presses his feet against Royce a little more, seeking warmth.]

Imagine - proper sun.

[bywolves]

[ Royce settles his arms on Alfie's feet more firmly. ]

Mm. I miss the feel of it on my skin. [ He rubs at Alfie's arm. ] Fire is about as close as we can get.

[devoutish]

You want me to give you then sun, then, is that it?

[He walks his fingers up Royce's forearm.]

[bywolves]

[ He laughs a little. ]

You just happen to have one in your back pocket?

[devoutish]

Nah.

But somebody once told me they've got these things called heating lamps in the future. They're meant to be just like the sun.

[bywolves]

[ Royce glances at him. ]

I'd take one of those right now. [ He tucks the blankets in further. ] We'd be in better shape if we had one.

[devoutish]

Maybe we'll find one, eh?

[Not likely, and he knows it.]

-- Mm, and Royce, by the way...

[bywolves]

Here's hoping. [ A beat. ] What?

[devoutish]

Ecks is threatening again. I'm not worried, but I don't wanna hide it from you.

[bywolves]

[ He scowls, pulling Alfie closer. ]

You'd think she'd find something else to do with her time. [ His tone is pissy. ] She won't come anywhere close to you, either way.

[devoutish]

She's a bit confused. I asked her how long this was going to go on, and she said it had only been four years.

[bywolves]

A lot of people are having trouble with how many years it's been.

She was young to begin with. Four years probably feels like forty to her.

[devoutish]

Still. It's a bit odd, don't you think.

[bywolves]

Mm. [ He rests his head against Alfie's. ] Especially since I was sure it'd been sixty years.

[devoutish]

You think it's an effect Norfinbury has on us? Maybe I'm wrong; maybe it's not been forty years.

[bywolves]

Probably. It's been years, obviously, but I wouldn't put it past Norfinbury to screw with our perceptions of time. Wouldn't be the first time.

[devoutish]

Mm.

[He's quiet for a moment.]

She says she's got a hatchet. If we run into her, be careful.

[bywolves]

I've been collecting knives for forty or sixty years, Alfie. We'll be fine. [ He's not so old that he can't protect the both of them, he thinks. ]

[devoutish]

I wish I weren't so--

[Broken down. Decrepit. Old.]

I don't like feeling helpless.

[bywolves]

You're not. [ Which is only a little bit of a lie. ] If I gave you a knife, you'd still be able to protect yourself.

[devoutish]

My hand would be unsteady.

[He holds up a hand to show Royce, and it is indeed shaking just a little, as it often is these days.]

I couldn't grip it well enough.

[bywolves]

[ Oof, Alfie, he doesn't want to see this. His expression tightens a bit. ]

You can. [ He says, shortly. ] I'll give you something you don't need to be precise with as a weapon.

[devoutish]

Yeah.

[He goes quiet again.]
