[This is stupid. John's well aware it's stupid, but he can't help asking a question that's been gnawing away at him for more than a week now.]

How tall is everyone? I've been wondering, meeting with different people here, what the spread of heights might be. Among other things. If you aren't sure on specifics or if you don't know the measurement system, I can give you an idea of how to compare units you might be familiar with.

Ecks, from what I remember, you're about 5'9". Dr. House or one of the other humans you're with can probably give you a decent gauge. Dr. Stein is over six feet tall, to be sure. That's much too tall for anyone.

I'm not sure it's anyone's foot in particular. It's just a unit of measurement. They've standardized it over the years, but I don't remember who it came from originally. Some civilization that's long since fallen.

I honestly don't know where we pulled it that unit name from, Ecks. There's something more standardized in my world that most people use called meters. We just use feet and inches still in my country and America for height.

Five and a half feet is average if you consider the entire population.

[And not just the men... He's a little miffed that he's only the second tallest bloke here, when taking out those who haven't gone through puberty fully, yet.]

There are 12 inches in 1 foot. Half a foot is 6 inches. I'm 5 feet 6 inches tall, so I'm 5 and a half feet tall. Feet are abbreviated with (') and inches are abbreviated with (").

I thought I was five and a half feet tall because ten is half of twenty

No. You're almost to six feet. Just two inches short of it.

Yeah. Yeah, you are. Especially for a girl. They're usually shorter than men. The average for women in my country is around 5'3" or 5'4". So, you're an A-, at least.

it is easier to make something that has many small parts if it is large relative to yourself

I'll keep that in mind if I'm ever building a golem.

or you could make the golem out of something that does not have parts, like clay
but then you cannot make a person

So, you don't think that a golem made out of clay could be like you? Someone who gained sentience.

I do not think so unless you use a different kind of magic that can also make a person
I had to be made out of flesh because grafting magic was necessary to make me alive in a different way than other golems are alive

You're a person first and a golem second. It doesn't matter how you were made, really. You know that, right?

it matters how I was made because that is how I became a person
I was constructed as a golem and then became a person
you wrote the two words in the wrong order

I think we're talking about this different ways, Ecks. You're a person to me regardless of how you were made. Do you understand? I mean it more... metaphysically than literally.

And just for the record, I'm not actually planning to build a golem. Ever. I have a daughter and she's a handful enough.
