I'll rip you open to take it!

[The running is too much. John gives chase, the instinct too strong to resist now. There's a pulse in his head, a voice whispering poison. When the Cat-Eyed Boy swings around the stairway, the hound tries to follow, claws scrabbling at the marble as he figures out what the hell he's even doing. He wastes precious seconds blinking and getting his bearings before the gravity reorientation settles itself in his head and he's off, howling after the boy.

There are rooms on the ceiling the boy might be able to get to, ones with openings that are too small for John's large frame to get through. Maybe if he can make it to one of those? But the hound is after him, ready to pounce at the first chance he gets.

[Cat-Eyed Boy knows about running, so he's able to keep a pretty steady pace, even on all fours. He's tempted to say something back, but decides keeping his path on the stairway straight is more important right now. He darts a bit to the side occasionally, hoping that even if the hound pounces it'll overshoot or go by him.]

[It's a good thing for the Cat-Eyed Boy that he darts. There's a moment when he's closing on one of the openings above that John lunges forward. One of his paws slaps down where the boy had been just moments before. The hound snarls in frustration. The light is just out of his reach and it's infuriating.]

Stay still!

[He doesn't recover fast enough from the leap, unfortunately. If the Cat-Eyed Boy takes advantage of the distraction, he'll be home free.]

So you can take whatever "my light" is? I don't think so! [He grins when the hound stumbles and lunges for the escape. He clings there for a moment before clambering out of reach.] So~rry, you were too slow! [He'll stick out his tongue one last time before running away.]

[The sounds of ferocious barking and the scrabbling of claws are the only things that follow him.]
