[John doesn't stop, but he does leap high and to the side, clear over Al. There's a snarl of pain as he comes down on his bad leg and it half-collapses from under him. It takes a few seconds for John to pick himself up and turns.]

You stole the light. You stole it.

[armoured]

[That's both a good and a bad thing, though he doesn't realise how close he came to simply being knocked out this early, and Al takes a ready stance again at once.]

I didn't take anyone's light, it's-- wait... Dr. Watson?!

[jumpthegun]

I can see it in your mouth.

[Another lunge, this time lower. Al will need to dodge out of the way.]

[armoured]

[At least he's good at dodging as well as fighting, almost pirouetting out of the way.]

Will you just stop?! You don't want to do this, and that's my light, I didn't take it from anyone.

[jumpthegun]

The dreams. [John is slow to turn once more.] You stole them in the dreams. We all did. [He hadn't known then that they were other people, that it was more than just another anomaly. Now he does, now he knows Al stole the light for himself.] You don't deserve to keep it.

[John feints right, then lunges left this time, jaws opened wide to close around whatever part of Al he can.]

[This time he jumps back as far as he can, arms coming up to protect his body instinctively.]

Even if that's true, do you really think you're going to make it better by stealing it again?

[He didn't even think about that, what if the other monsters had been people like them too?]

You're just making it worse!

[And John just keeps going, plowing into Al's raised arms if he can. He doesn't have coherent speech anymore. He's pure want and resentment. That light should be his.

Mine, mine, mine!]

[armoured]

[Okay... well, that didn't work.

He has two options, run away or try to fight. He doesn't want to run away, not when that might leave other people to get hurt, so he stands his ground. The stupid option, as it turns out, because that means he'll just drop unconscious when Dr. Watson touches him.

The last thing he'll feel is a sharp surprise, and a fear that the other anomalies are just people too.]

[John is on top of Al in seconds, claws scraping across his metal face to open his mouth. The hound's tongue dips in, coils around the light, and yanks it out. There's hardly a moment before John is swallowing the light down. Some part of him shudders with relief, and his mind returns to clarity once more. Which means he realizes very suddenly what he's just done.

He gets off Al and tries to nudge the boy in the suit of armor with a paw, then his nose.

You're an anomaly, John, Mary says, appearing before John and kneeling next to Al to check on him. She's not gone. She's never gone. That's not going to help. You need to get out of here.]

I can't just leave him.

[You took his light and you might go feral again. Apologize when you're not like this and attack any of the other monsters you come across. You need to stop them as well as yourself.

John whines in the back of his throat, but takes a step back, then flees.]
