[Alfie hesitates.]

[bywolves]

I'd rather have you do it than a stranger.

[devoutish]

[Good point.]

Raise your right hand.

[bywolves]

[ It's innocent enough, but he still looks uncomfortable when he's forced to raise his right hand. ]

Still in effect, then.

[devoutish]

Mm. I'll be careful, then.

[bywolves]

I know. [ He really does think that Alfie will try, he's not going to get mad. ] You're going to have to tell me to put it down, I can't do it on my own.

[devoutish]

Put it down. Do whatever you'd like for the rest of the night.

[bywolves]

Mm. [ Royce eases, putting his hand down. He pauses, and then reaches out to pull his hair into a loose ponytail to get it out of his face. ]

Do you remember this house? We've been here a few times.

[devoutish]

Yeah.

[He looks a little melancholy about it, actually. He has some good memories in this house, as far as good memories go here.]

[bywolves]

[ Royce drags his hands across the beads. ] I killed House here.

[devoutish]

I met with Fiona here.

[Two romantic memories.]

If you could do it over again, would you still kill him?

[bywolves]

Yes. [ Royce says, without hesitation. ] I thought about that one.

[ He sighs, though. ] I would take back the fact that I cut his ear, the last time we saw him.

[devoutish]

Because of Emily?

[bywolves]

Because of Emily, and because I don't like losing my temper.

[devoutish]

Do you do it less, now?

[bywolves]

Yes. [ He gives Alfie a sidelong glance, a hint of a smirk on his face. There's just a little sarcasm here, just a little: ] I actually forgive people now. I'm a changed man.

[devoutish]

Gone hero, have you?

{He knows Royce hasn't.]

[bywolves]

I'm a regular folktale. [ Royce drawls. ] They'll tell stories of my victories, and so on. And so forth.

[devoutish]

[That actually gets Alfie to laugh.]

You're fucking accosted in the streets by well-wishers, are you?

[bywolves]

[ no he'd die if that was the case ]

My entourage wouldn't let them get close, I think. [ He sounds annoyed by this, actually. He also has forgotten Alfie doesn't know about his status. Oops. ]

[devoutish]

You've got an entourage? Fans?

[DO TELL, Royce.]

[bywolves]

[ UGH. Royce pauses to think about whether it's worth lying about or not, and then sighs. He already told Emily, she's not going to keep that secret. ]

I've got two elves following me around now, every time I head out across the river. Not for lack of trying to get them to leave me alone. It's a long story.

[devoutish]

[bywolves]
