[network] @ADMIN; Obituary [DAY 186]
We mourn the loss of those who have died in the time between the last announcement and this one:

How d'you mean? Like fighting in your village?
action
Not exactly. I mean, we did spar with each other, but on the world where I grew up, monsters would attack travelers.
Sometimes, not even because we were in their territory.
[ Surprise #1: Sheena's from a different world. ]
action
What other reasons did they have to attack you? Just... being arseholes?
action
Or they were bored. [ She starts chuckling. ] No, seriously. There were times when we were traveling that they would just watch us go by. Then other times, it was like they needed something to do, so they came after us.
action
action
A devil? Well, we have something called "Devil's Arms" that are weapons connected to someone named Nebilim who put a curse on them when he was defeated by their owner. Does that count?
action
That... would depend on where he got the word 'devil' from for it. Have you got Christianity? Or Judaism?
action
She pauses to think before shaking her head. ]
I'm not sure. We might have a long time ago, but a lot of records have been lost. [ Or destroyed. ] Mostly it's been the religion of my village and the Church of Martel.
Would the devil be a demon, by any chance? The man who told us about Nebilim was from a family of demon-hunters. It was his ancestor who defeated Nebilim.

action
Boss of the demons? Hmmm. [ She's about to continue when he explains the saying. Shaking her head, she looks at him quizzically. ]
Why does it have to be something bad? Why can't it be something good?
[ Sorry, John. ]
action
action
She thinks on his explanation and the rest of their conversation. ]
I think I get it. Nobody wants to be a plaything of a demon, right? So do something and he won't get the chance to make that happen?
Sounds more like a way to prevent possession, if you ask me.
[ She's serious, by the way. ]
action
[You're making this so complicated, it's starting to confuse him, Sheena.]
action
[ She looks at him curiously. ]
Really? No real demonic possession? I've only seen it once, but I'm glad to hear you've never had to deal with it.
[ It's her upbringing, John. Makes you want to visit her world, doesn't it? ]
action
Demons and things... don't really exist where I'm from. Nothing supernatural. I'm sorry you have seen that sort of thing.
action
She looks at him. ]
Not even Elemental Spirits of the planet? [ Her smile fades slightly. ] That's a little sad because those I'm not sorry to have seen.
action
C'est la vie. I'm all right not meeting elemental spirits. I wouldn't know what to say to them.
action
What...what language is that? [ She had heard that phrase a few times back home and is curious.
As for his other comment, she smiles. ]
Well, "hello" is usually a good way to start. Although, Gnome's a little informal, so "hi" might work for him.
[ La la la. ]
action
Never thought just a standard greeting would work. There isn't some elaborate ritual greeting with a fancy dance?
action
[ Hey, if elves can come from space, why not humans? ]
Well... [ She chuckles sheepishly. ] I was taught to greet them in a formal manner, but when I got to Gnome, he didn't want to have anything to do with the "stuffy language". But now, after making the pacts, anyone I introduce them to just needs to be polite and respectful.
[ Which is really all they want. ]
As for the fancy dance... I guess I and my friends did that when we fought them.
action
Or it might be some sort of cosmic resonance. We've got all sorts of different versions of Earth represented here, after all.
And, sorry... you danced to fight the spirits?
action
Well...what if people from this world actually traveled to mine the same way the elves did? There are no records of how humans came to be back home, so it's possible, right?
[ She shakes her head. ]
Not exactly--although Zelos looks like he's dancing whenever he's in battle. But that's what I was referring to. [ She was trying for a metaphor. Whoops. ]
It was so I could show the Spirits my heart. I might have had the right to make the pact, but that didn't mean they would automatically agree to it.
[ She looks away to hide the pain in her eyes. There had been one who had needed extra convincing. ]
action
[Maybe it's even probable. John's no physicist or expert on Sheena's universe, certainly. It makes as much sense as anything else... which is to say, very little of it all makes sense.
In any case, she's looking a little sad now. John shifts topics.]
You have a very interesting world from the sound of it. Wouldn't mind visiting sometime if we get the chance after this.
action
And she's going to share part of the story with John.
She gives him that impish look, grateful for the change in topic. ]
You have no idea. Right now--if we do get the chance--it's fairly easy to travel from place to place. But what if I told it wasn't because the world used to be be split in two?

Think we can wrap this up? Trying to clear up some of our older threads.
No problem! Can do it with this tag! :D
